Opening a bible in no column mode

Hi all,

This might be a simple answer, but I can't seem to find a way to open my bible without it automatically being in two columns....makes scrolling difficult.

Is there a way to pre-set opening a bible in scroll mode? Or do you have to change it every time?

Any book will open using the settings in which you last closed in. If you close it with zero columns (the settings are in the panel menu), it should open in scrolling mode. However, you have posted in general rather than in desktop/mobile/or web so my answer for desktop may not be the answer to your question.

This is in the desktop version. I boot up Logos and I don't have any books open (set to open on home screen). When I open up the bible (the first thing I open) it seems defaulted to column view. Is there a way to change this?

Yes. Go to the panel menu (3 vertical dots) for the Bible and set the columns to none.

I know I can do that after i open it. I'm wanting to open and it already be in no column mode. Is that possible?

Once you have set it to no column mode in the panel menu, it will open in no column mode next time you open it.

So from what I'm gathering, there is no way to get the bible to open in no column mode the first time you open it? When it's the first book you've opened? Before anything else?

I have no idea how to change that, but for me new books always default to no column mode.

I don't know what is making your books open to two columns when you open them for the very first time.

However having opened them once and set the book to no column mode is should open in no columns the next time you open it.

I wonder, are you perchance, opening the book in a layout that has been saved with the book in two column mode?

I think his response #2 addressed this?

I do have a similar problem, answered by others above, and you. My NRSV is in a layout I use, with the Multiview open. Any use of NRSV (even with the layout long gone) opens NRSV with Multiview. Drives me up the wall, but I understand the UI design reason.

But... !! may we be getting closer to a possible cause if Brenton could track down a wayward copy tucked away in a dusty corner of a disused layout.

First book or first time has no effect on the behavior. It will open in no column mode if you last closed it in no column mode. It is really that simple. We understand your problem but from a distance we can't see where you are closing it in column mode.

Sorry but this is no help. We know that it will open in two columns if it is CLOSED in two columns.

Please do the following:

Open your Bible
Open the panel menu (3 vertical dots)
Set columns to none (as in red box)
Close the Bible
Reopen the Bible - it opens in scroll mode, right?

It will continue to open in scroll mode even after Logos has been shut down and reopened UNTIL you open it with columns set.

IF it reverts to columns then you have a layout that is resetting it to columns view.

So far so good ... Screen recording stops after the ESV has been set to "no columns" and also shows that it works in no column mode.
Now, what happened next and prior to closing Logos?

If you just close the ESV panel and re-open it, does ESV open in "2 columns" or in "no column" mode? It should open with your last setting as "no columns". It would continue to do so also after restart of Logos until that setting is changed again via the panel menu setting.

Hey Brenton, these guys are correct if all of your bibles are set to none before you close , then all will open up with no columns. But if you close five bible windows and miss one that has been minimized, then all will open in auto column. So all bible windows need to be set to none when closing, if one is not, all will open in auto column.

When I started reading Paul's small letters on my 38" monitor I began using columns so I could see the whole letter at once. Makes it much easier to track themes and key words with colored highlighters. I always seemed to forget to reset the columns to none before closing. This meant bible windows I did not tick to auto before closing, opened in auto because the behavior of one affects them all.

I wish Logos column settings only affected the bibles manually ticked to auto, but they all work together. I gave up trying to get Logos to open with single column in some windows and multi column in other windows. They all open the same no matter what. Now I am always ticking from auto column back to none for some windows that are to small for scrolling like you said. You get used to it after a while.

Hmn ... I could not reproduce this about all open in auto column if one was closed without being set to no column.

I started Logos desktop to blank workspace, and then opened ESC and NASB, both opened in no column mode. Then I set NASB to 2 columns mode. Next, with both Bible panes still open, I closed Logos.
Waited a moment, then started Logos up again to blank workspace, then opened NASB, which opened in 2 column mode, opened ESV and it opened in no column mode ... in other words, both opened in the column mode in which they were last closed.

I am using Logos 24 on Win 10 ... would there be a difference between Mac / Win ?

Thanks for the reply, I have a new super computer, windows 11. I use the LEB in about eight windows simultaneously, two set to auto column. If I close the program and forget to reset either of the auto's back to none, then all of the LEB windows will open in auto.

My gripe is, I wish only the LEB windows set to auto would open in auto and the others would maintain there settings (none). But as it is, all will open in auto if one was closed in auto.

If there was a variable unknown to me, learning that variable would reduce my clicks (and those clicks add up).

Thanks for the description. Yes, it is true that multiple occurrences of the same Bible behave as you describe. It was the "multiple occurrences" part that I was missing.
