How to sync highlights between pc and mobile apps.

The highlights I make on a text on my pc don't show on my mobile app. For example, if I was to highlight John 3:16 on my pc, I would expect that it would sync with my mobile app, thus John 3:16 will also be highlighted on my mobile app, but this doesn't happen. Please how can I fix this?

    Welcome to the forums Emigbanam.

First step - Double check that you signed into the same account on both your desktop and on your mobile..

Second step post full screen screen shots of both the PC desktop and the Mobile screen using the paper clip icon in the tool bar. Posting screenshots often help us spot a setting that is out of place.

In addition to Mike's suggestions, can you check if you have Show Notes/Highlights enabled in View Settings in the mobile app?

  • Thanks Mike, I have confirmed that both PC and Mobile are on the same account. Also, I have attached a screenshot for both apps.

Looking forward to your response, Thanks.

PS: I couldn't find the paperclip tool you talked about on the tool bar, so I took the screenshot with another app on both my mobile and PC

  • Thanks Graham. I have confirmed that the Show Notes/Highlights option is enabled.

Also, I have attached a screenshot for both apps.

The screenshot from your PC indicates that the highlights you are seeing in the KJV and CSB were actually created in another Bible and you are seeing them in these Bibles through the use of Corresponding Highlighting (this feature is outlined in one of the videos at https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025819851-Notes-and-Highlights-Videos)

This feature is not supported on mobile which is why, I think, you are not seeing the highlights there.

To verify this, please hover your cursor over one of the highlights on your PC and I think you will see a popup saying something like Corresponding annotations from XXX (where XXX is the Bible actually containing the highlight)

If you open that Bible in your mobile app you should see the highlights there.

  • Thanks again Graham.

I have tried hovering the cursor over the several highlighted sections, but I didn't get the annotations you surmised I would get.

However, what I am more concerned about right now is to know the method that will allow my PC and mobile highlights to be synced, such that If I make a highlight on one platform it automatically shows in the other. Is that function available on the app?

Yes - this works and doesn't need anything particular to be done to enable it. It happens automatically.

So I was trying to understand why you weren't seeing it in your setting - hence my supposition about the use of corresponding highlighting.

To help track this down a bit further please - on the desktop - open the Information Tool (available from the Tools menu) and then click one of the highlighted words. This should update the Information Tool - please upload a screenshot showing the contents of the Highlights section of the Tool

  • Hello Graham. I don't know how, but it seems to be working fine now. However I think there are a few things I am yet to understand about the way it works. So I'll try to state my ignorance and confusions in form of questions;

    1. On the PC app, if I highlight on one version, it automatically highlights the same text in another version. So, if for instance I highlight John 3:16 in KJV, John3 :16 in CSB is automatically highlighted as well. However, on the mobile app, only John 3:16 KJV will be synced and highlighted. Is this how it normally works? or is it just a glitch in my own system?

    2. Also, If I highlight on my mobile app, will it automatically update on the PC apps and all the versions?

These are the enquiries I have currently. Once again, thank you so much for your timely and helpful responses so far. God bless!

    That is good news!

Yes - this is how it works.

As above, the mechanism used on the desktop to show highlights from one version in another is corresponding highlighting and it is not supported on mobile.

Incidentally, this capability makes use of the reverse interlinear underlying translations so will only work for translations that have reverse interlinears or original language texts.

    2. Also, If I highlight on my mobile app, will it automatically update on the PC apps and all the versions?

Highlights on mobile should automatically sync to desktop and then be visible on all translations there - so long as the translations have a reverse interlinear.

On desktop, you can control whether corresponding highlights are seen across all versions by enabling / disabling them from the visual filter menu in the translation.

To ensure that highlights made on a text on your PC sync with your mobile app, follow these steps:

    1. Check for Syncing Settings:

Ensure that syncing is enabled on both your PC and mobile app.

    • PC:
      • Open the app on your PC and go to the settings or preferences.
      • Look for sync options and make sure syncing is turned on.
    • Mobile App:
      • Open the app on your mobile device and go to the settings.
      • Ensure that sync or cloud sync is enabled.

    2. Sign In with the Same Account:

Make sure you are signed in with the same account on both devices.

    • PC:
      • Verify that you are logged in with the correct account.
    • Mobile App:
      • Confirm that you are using the same login credentials as on your PC.

    3. Manual Sync:

Sometimes, a manual sync can resolve syncing issues.

    • PC:
      • Look for a manual sync option in the settings and trigger a sync.
    • Mobile App:
      • Navigate to the settings and manually initiate a sync.

    4. Update the App:

Ensure that you have the latest version of the app on both your PC and mobile device.

    • PC:
      • Check for updates within the app or on the official website.
    • Mobile App:
      • Visit the app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) and update the app if necessary.

    5. Check Internet Connection:

Ensure that both devices have a stable internet connection, as syncing requires connectivity.

    • PC:
      • Verify that your PC is connected to the internet.
    • Mobile App:
      • Ensure your mobile device has a reliable internet connection, either through Wi-Fi or mobile data.

    6. Restart the App:

Restarting the app can sometimes resolve syncing issues.

    • PC:
      • Close the app completely and reopen it.
    • Mobile App:
      • Force close the app and then reopen it.

    7. Reinstall the App:

If syncing issues persist, reinstalling the app can help.

    • PC:
      • Uninstall the app and then reinstall it from the official source.
    • Mobile App:
      • Uninstall the app from your mobile device and reinstall it from the app store.

    8. Contact Support:

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact the app’s support team for assistance. Provide them with details of the problem and the steps you have already taken.

By following these steps, you should be able to ensure that highlights made on your PC sync correctly with your mobile app.
