Absolutely useless information you were dying to know

Using the search argument 1 OR 2 OR 3 OR 4 OR 5 OR 6 OR 7 OR 8 OR 9 OR 0 which assumes every cross reference includes at least 1 number and running against the search field cross-references for all English Bibles, I came up with the following cross-reference counts:
116 English Bibles use the cross-reference field
NIV 84,779 results
HCSB 84,245 results
LSB 79,566 results
NASB95 79,419 results
ESV 68,394 results
NKJV 63,394 results
CSB 54,247 results
NRSVue 48,045 results
MEV 37,837 results
NABRE 27,334 results
NJB 25,043 results
...
Harwood 13 results
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

This whole subject of cross-references is 'new' to me. I never used them. The funny column in the middle of the Bible page. Instead, I read the footnotes. The more details, the better.
And indeed, my habits remain rewarded, using NABre. Great footnotes. Never noticed the cross-refs. Of course NET too.
So, with Jerome's (Smith) enthusiasm, I tried out his volume. And indeed, it was rewarding ... but mainly his notes! I'll have to see how to alter my study. Apparently, the Passage Guide strips his notes (cross-ref section).

Actually, it simply gives a link to his work - top portion of the cross-reference section. The bottom portion of the cross-reference section comes from your Bibles and is stripped to a bare reference.

Well, live and learn! Looked like a heading. NTSK does have an interesting grouping for 'mouth to mouth' in Num 12:8 (an interesting concept to be researched). And at the bottom, all the body parts of the Deity. Convenient!

It is quick, but not accurate e.g. in ESV
- Gen 1:! has 12 results vs. 13
- Gen 1:6 has 1 result vs. 4
- the difference mounts up; and
- Whole bible has 68,803 (68,394?) vs. 87,138
The proper query is bible:Gen-Rev (which has to change for other canons).

I assumed that it was counting based on ";" meaning a new reference while "," meant the continuation of a reference - not necessarily how I would have defined it but at least definable.
What am I missing?

Then you get 7 results for Gen 1.9 vs. 5!
You have to look for occurrences of a single integer separated by space, hyphen -, or punctuation

So exactly what search term should be used?
