Knowing What We Know ... and Factbook

This is a new entry, not yet in Logos (yet?). It's sort of an easy-going journey over how humans collect 'knowledge' ... or at least artifacts of knowledge. Of course, it moved into the modern days of wiki's and search engines. Which in many ways, is what an unknown source (writer, engine-designer) perceives to be 'knowledge'.
And of course, hot on the trail of recent development are the AI conversationalists ... one further step into someone else's 'knowledge'.
But back in Logosland, we have our 'Factbook'. And we have searches (the ones that try to deliver inexact results). Both propose to deliver 'knowledge', or at least FL's vision of it. Or vision colored by what a customer thinks, anyway.
I just wonder at the narrowness of that vision. It's supposed to benefit newbies, which is good. But there's also not much beyond that. Largely labels/tags.
I guess I miss George's vision of gnostic Logosians.

Don't know about George's vision of gnostic Logosians... but I do agree with the rest of your post.

I think we will see more attempts to simplify the interface for new users (the current Quick Actions is wide of the mark IMHO).

They are noble attempts as I do use Factbook! Faithlife still have a long way to go with Search, though (Martha had to remind me there was a journalArticle label and it failed to facilitate a word search by not highlighting the whole article[:)]. I'd better put out a bug report).
I find it amazing how many requests come up for morphological/grammatical queries that could once and for all pull out the author's meaning from one word in a passage[:P]. If it can be formulated, the query is necessarily inexact. Is this what you mean by requiring "gnostic Logosians"?DMB said:(the ones that try to deliver inexact results)

I chuckle everytime I see this because the image it raises in my mind is a WWII soldier's love letter to his fiancé being run through the parsing routine. Yes, my most prominent image of the Bible is God's love letter to His people.

The inexactness referred to regular queries (non-morphed), that can only hint at what is sought. I think Rosie kind of went into the search talent needed (to Alexander).
George's reference to modern day gnostics was that right knowledge had some salvific value. Ergo, the perfect Factbook.

I sort of twisted your meaning to imply that those non-regular queries could not replace some good 'gnostic' knowledge.

Dave, I agree with you on this... but I will say, I think Mark Barnes is dedicated to making the process easier. I now use Logos Search (which I stopped using in L9.) and maybe I'll get into using Factbook. I have hope! [8-|]

Our pastor prints out his sermons (in hopes we'll read it). But not a problem. Since it's delivered with great care, each word must be critical. A careful review of english lexicons, morphological analyses, etymological reviews, clausal structures, and ... oh yes, context ... they're all exegetically and rigorously applied. Sentence by sentence (numbered, of course). When presented to the pastor, with what he truly meant, he smiles. I think it might indicate he thinks we've completely missed the point.

Ah yes, remember the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus applies historical linguistic changes (Hebrew to Aramaic), morphological analysis, etymology, clausal grammatical and semantic structures? It was so riveting that people stayed around until the very end of his exposition on Parashat Pinchas (Numbers 25:10–30:1).
