When I click on the MIDI link in the Logos Hymnal Media Resource for "How Firm A Foundation" it plays "O Come, All Ye Faithful."
Mine was correct; as an avid hymnal enthusiast i've noticed different groups may have different tunes for their hymns
In ancient times (back in the early 14th century) I used to be able to read music, and as best as I can tell it seems to not match the notes on the sheet music displayed.
after a quick glance I was unable to find sheet music accompanying the Logos Hymnal resource. Am I missing something?
Abingdon Hymnal, Ark of Praise, The assembly Hymn and Song collection has Adeste Fideles (Portuguese Hymn from J. F. Wade's Cantus Diversi
Abiding Songs, American Baptist Hymnal, American Catholic Hymnbook has Foundation by Anne Steele
Apples of Gold has Kirkham by H. H. Petersen
As you can see this doesn't get far in the alphabet to have 3 "standard tunes"
Hi there. I actually play the piano. After looking at the manuscript, although what is being played audibly on the midi sample is not insactly what is on the manuscript, the tune of "How Firm A Foundation" is that of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful."
What hymnal are you using ... mine looks fine.
Looks fine, but sounds like "O Come All Ye Faithful":
Wonder about Midi link for How Firm A Foundation in LLS:LBXHYMNMR ? Seems 2 songs linked to 000140.mid media path (console message - snippets):

Since the tune is the same as one very commonly used for 'O Come All Ye Faithful" it should sound like "O Come All Ye Faithful". The tune is known as Adeste Fideles or Portuguese Hymn (or on this thread at least O Come all ye faithful). It is used with several sets of words including How Firm a Foundation and Adeste Fideles and O Come all Ye Faithful. If you read music, the score provided is the "O Come all Ye Faithful" tune.

Correct - key, harmony and grace notes generally don't affect the tune name. The Hymn Tune Index gives 20 variants of the tune and it only goes up to 1820.
Upon zooming in on the sheet music on the screen, don't I feel stupid!
In my inadequate defense, I had the original tune stuck in my head (which happens to be called "Foundation"). Check it out here: http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/h/h376.html. That version is used as the opening hymn for Dr. J. Vernon McGee's "Through the Bible" radio program, which I have listened to for years.

No need to apologize - most people only encounter one tune for hymns that may use several - well, unless they are shaped note singers. And perhaps "Away in a manager"

Tune name is same, but sound (key transposition) and phrasing different. Midi file for Hymn 304 does not match sheet music - quite noticeable in several places (including start of refrain where harmony notes quite soft). Wonder how many other Adeste Fideles hymns linked to same midi file ?
The songs sound the same to me. I checked the Windows version and it is the same. I'm checking with my supervisor. It might be something that needs to be udpated on the Windows end. That is if something really is wrong.
Or gone to summer camp and sang "Amazing Grace" - which seems to fit too many tunes. [:)]
