L/V 10+ Tip of the Day #203 Every reference to a person
Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.
This tip is inspired by the forum post: L/V 10+ Tip of the Day #202 Person-events in Topic guide and Factbook - Logos Forums
Sometimes the various "names" by which a person is called tells us something about the person and their place in history. We have three ways of finding all the occurrences of a person (tagged by Faithlife). Using Sarai/Sarah as an example:
- Search person:Sarah
- Factbook > Sarah
- Passage Guide > Biblical People/Topic Guide > Biblical People (incomplete list of Bible references)
The Search highlights all the occurrences and shows them in canonical order.
The Factbook:
- Shows entries twice - once under the original language and once under "translated as". References by pronoun or implied by verbs appear only under "translated as".
- Original language entries show:
- lemma icon
- lemma with link to Factbook page (in order of frequency)
- transliteration
- pronunciation
- gloss
- number of references
- expand to show Bible references with lemma occurrences highlighted
- Translated as entries show
- translation (in order of frequency)
- number of references
- expand to show Bible references with translated occurrences lightlighted
- For both original language and translated as there are options to save as a Passage List or to filter you Bible by the references.
Another example of its useful (partial listing):
My least favorite way to get the primary passages referring to Sarah is the Passage Guide > Biblical People (also Topic Guide > Biblical People)
I personally find the Factbook easier to use than the Search.
