Problem with listening to a downloaded audio book when in a poor network environment

Earlier today I was going out for a walk and downloaded an audio book (in this case the problem of pain but I believe the issue is general) to my iPhone and started listening to it.

While walking I was not connected to any WiFi network and for some of the time had a very poor mobile signal with very low data connectivity.

There were times when the reading stopped and would not continue until I got back into an area with better mobile data coverage. This seemed to coincide with end of sections / chapters of a book.

It is as though, even with the book downloaded to the device, the app tries to "report back" to Logos servers at particular points, for some reason.

I think this has been the case for a long time and remember flagging it some years ago when I think I was told that this was intended behaviour and the only way around it was to switch the phone into airplane mode (but I could be wrong about the details here).

Is this actually how the app works and, if so, is there any possibility of it being changed so that it is possible to listen to dowloaded books across chapter boundaries even in a poor network environment?

    I've just done that - but I'm aware it was over a week ago that I experienced in and I don't know how far back the logs go

    When this problem happens, does performance improve if you put your device into airplane mode?

    I did try switching to airplane mode and it didn't seem to make any difference.

    We are not able to duplicate this problem, except if the book is only partially downloaded.  

    I know this may sound obvious, but can you check and make sure the Problem of Pain is fully downloaded, perhaps download it again?

    It has been a while, but I recall also that there was a problem when I used to try to listen to an audio file on car trips.  I remember downloading books to listen to, but also that it was not enough to download the book. I do not remember specifics at the moment. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

    I hadn't come across the concept of a single book being partially downloaded. It did report as being downloaded but I have removed and downloaded again.

    For some reason I am not able to locate your logs.

    Yes I remember the same thing.

    I had downloaded a book for a car journey but when travelling through a remote part of the country without any mobile phone signal whenever the audio reading got to the end of a chapter it would pause until I got back into an area with mobile coverage.

    I did find, in that scenario, that switching to airplane mode would allow the reading to continue uninterrupted but I couldn't do that as I was using the phone as a sat nav device at the same time!

    Thanks for your logs, Graham.  I do remember we got similar reports a couple of years ago, but I am surprised to hear this reported now.

    We will investigate further.
