Another lesson from a hospital bed

I was abruptly placed in the hospital largely against my own inclination. So I recognize at 70, you don't have choices. I was overly medicated and couldn't remember passwords. No problem, right? You just reset them.

Well, as long as you don't use Apple. I agree with verification. And I should have written things down. Lesson learned. But this is ridiculous. Tell me why Apple subjects its users to such incredible nonsense. No one in the Apple store could give me such a reason for this one. I still intend to use my iPads, I can't even think about selling them and subjecting anyone else to this trouble. But I won't buy replacements at this point from Apple in the future. I just bought a new iPad for my wife a couple of weeks ago.

Apple appears to have a guaranteed recovery period of 14 days, by which time you might be back home[:D]

Microsoft (on Windows) are similarly asinine when I tried to recover a relative's email account. The reset failed as I did not have the magic "3 correct answers", so I sent an email with as much detail (and pleading) as I could. The reply was "Sorry, you did not provide enough information for us to recover this account". So I did another search amongst some of his crumpled papers and found one with both User Id and Password. Happy day!

I am back home. The phone call was from the Apple Store in which I was again subject to waiting to use my product. 14 days is still absurd. I spent more than three hours in the store only to get this kick in the pants.

Bitwarden is much easier than resetting passwords!

Securely stores User Names, Passwords, Login Notes (like the 3 questions and answers), etc. End to end encryption.

First off, I pray for a quick recovery. I'm sorry you're going through that.

I would like to say though, just so you know (for future reference)... it's sort of possible for us to make out the phone number on the picture you posted. Luckily this is the Logos forums, and I'm assuming the worst thing that would happen if any of us got ahold of your number would be a bunch of calls wishing you well in your recovery. I only say it to let you know in case you've posted the same photo elsewhere.

MAB, Sorry for your bad experience and hope you are doing well.

In the Apple ecosystem, it is disaster to lose access to your icloud account. If use of the device is your only concern, you could easily wipe the device and create a new AppleID. Of course you would lose everything as far as installed programs, settings etc.

As a former Windows and Android user, I find that Apple by far has the best system. Products like this are not necessary at all.

When you have Apple devices, they by default remember all of your different passwords, both for Apps and Websites. New Apps and Websites can be assigned automatically generated passwords which you never have to remember or type in.

Your Apple devices are equipped with facial recognition or fingerprint ID, which means that you will rarely have to type anything to log into them. In certain circumstances, your ID must be verified, but Apple allows you to get by by entering only a PIN number, which can be as few as 4 digits.

Your Apple device can also be used to store credit card and banking information, which can then be used to make purchases easily. I use my Apple watch to pay as the gas pump frequently.

Apple cannot do all of this without some form of real verification of course ... which is why there is one account you cannot forget the information too. That is your Apple icloud account. You only need one of these, and can use the same one for multiple devices. It will also be the identity of your free Apple email account. You will need to remember all the information and passwords you entered when you created this account.

The benefit here, is that even if you lose your phone / tablet / computer ... you can still log into this account from any other device or web browser ... you can report the device lost or stolen which will then disable it. Or you can use your other devices to find its location.

Wired reviewed a bunch of password manager apps ... and concluded about Apples built-in iCloud Keychain: "Apple's password system does most of what these applications can do."
