I need theological help

I am woundering to know more about the similarities and diffferences between “Meekness” and “Gentleness” how are they the same and when are they different? First I need the explanation after that goes to the specific recommendation of resource in Logos.

My theology professor, Dr. Robert Saucy, had his students look up every instance of a word and note its lemma and usage in order to gain a better understanding of the meaning of the word in Scripture. I think that you would need to do that kind of exercise with "meekness" and "gentleness."

Personally, I'd start with my bible... do a topical search on both words and see how they are used and the context they are used in.

Then I'd do a exegesis of the words and dig into what they meant in the Greek and Hebrew...

I am a firm believer in God's word and use it as a first resort. Many times, God's word will prove many a man wrong.

With the understanding that discussions of interpretations are forbidden on the forums, since Paul uses the phrase "the meekness and gentleness of Christ," I would read the Gospels carefully with an eye for those traits in the Lord Jesus. I would also keep reminding myself that the words meekness or gentleness might not be used, but the traits of meekness and gentleness can be found. Words describe concepts, and the concepts can exist even when the words themselves are not used.

Tes, your problem is a semantics issue. I researched the two greek words a bit. Here's the problem.

- In greek usage, the two words overlap in usage. You're hard-pressed to decide which one is best, for a meaning you want.

- Each has a fairly wide range of meaning. So, when you try to apply them to Jesus, or Paul (your reference), it's a guess. Context is king.

- The LXX (what Paul might be familiar with, or his audience) has limited help, mainly in the Psalms, and Apocrypha (which Paul seemed to use).

- The words (and associated meaning) are often paired up, as if they're idiomatic or poetic pairs, not meant to distinguish particularly.

So, you have 2 choices:

- Compare the greek, for yourself. If you have an RI (eg ESV), do a BWS and see the translation choices, and associated verses.

- Compare the english uses, maybe a Text Comparison for your verse(s), to see how it was treated

Or as above, a pre-digested approach (Topics, Factbook, Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, etc).

Meekness is your humble attitude and kindness/gentleness/consideration is what you show to people by being reasonable with them. At least that’s what I see when I looked at the definitions and how they are used.

yes , but after trying every possibility to figure out the meaning. I thought that I would need scolarly assistance. The reason for that is the words are vey similar.

What is good here is if I could not have the chance of discussing here, I couldn't know what resources I can choose. But now Because of the discussion I can choose which resource I can buy. If you mean this merely as a statement I am pleased, but if this is meant to be a question, I leave this brief statement.

The experimental search tool is meant to simplify querying the information found in the books of your library as opposed to your Bibles. It is useful for identifying books that address your question as stated in plain language. The Summary feature is meant to capture the essence of the information found in each book recommended by your question. Forgive me if I mistook your intent and am stating what you have already learnt from experience.

Beloved! I think it seems that you have misunderstood me due to my poor english. It is true these are informations which are searched from my Library as well as I could have seen in the search I have found out also books which I don't own which are included as I have bought one. What I like is I could have easly collect the relevant informations which could help me to decide the meanings of the words. I hope it is now clear.
