Can I search all my Top Bibles for a phrase and exclude duplicates. Like I want only 1 verse of the phrase "one another". Not every time it shows up in each of the Top Bibles?
Not every time it shows up in each of the Top Bibles?
I am not sure I understand what you are wanting to do. You can easily just look at the first hit in a list of results ?
Are you talking about a Cross-Version search?
Now that we have hundreds of English translations, I am wondering why no Bible software has anything like a "fuzzy" search of Biblical text.
I began my experience with the King James Bible. Nowadays I generally use the NKJV or the ESV.
I find that in my memory, there is still a lot of KJV language in there. For many searches, I know the exact words of the KJV, but may be working in the ESV or another translation.
It is a nuisance to have to switch translations to do a search, and then switch back.
Bibleworks had an option called "Cross version search mode", and this could be configured to search all translations of the current language, and display the hits, even from other translations. It was a great feature, but not well implemented.
Couldn't a "fuzzy" Bible search look for your search phrase in every English translation in your library, while you continued to work in your primary translation?
Surely this would be easier to implement than all the talk about AI search going on lately [:D]
And much more useful and relevant for a "Bible software" where the primary search is to locate certain Bible verses.
Maybe Logos already lets you search multiple translations. But mine seems to be stuck on NKJV only.
What is the point of the search if not to find "every time it shows up?"
I doubt it'd get a lot of use in Logos. But I think SQL had a FIRST qualifier. I know I used single-instance a lot to get more speed ... 'you found it, stop, next ...'.
Which does bring up a point .. you generally can't tell the Logos search engine to stop (either a search off the rails, or presentation taking forever). Other than kill the argument.
It's just brain overload. When I search for "one another" in my Top Bibles I get 744 verses. That would just boggle my mind.
Ok i learned something just now. If I use the main search form instead of the little search box on the Bible window ... Logos DOES allow me to search multiple English versions at once. And it already has a "fuzzy" option. I need to keep using this instead of going back to Bibleworks all the time [:)]
I'm no expert, but I just did your search and got this. It shows each Bible translation with the number of results. Thanks for asking your question, I'm learning now [:)]
You have options:
Thanks Y'all. I love the tool, and was running searches on this and my light blub thot ...
I work in Excel and Access too much. I'll get it here. Maybe joining LISTS I can just ... I'll try. Thanks again
