search mytag in my Notes

Hi everyone,

I typically have never used specific Notebooks because I feel like I can collect all my Notes by searching using “mytag”. But I’ve realized browsing the Notes from search results is not as convenient as browsing the Notes by going to a specific Notebook directly using the Notes tools. Therefore, I’m trying to collect all the Notes where I have tags starting with “Trinity” into a separate Notebook named “Trinity”.

To identify these Notes, I did a Docs search (and also choosing Notes) for “mytag:Trinity”. It gave me the following:

When I expand the “No notebook” and select Notes, many of them are already under “Trinity” notebook. I can confirm the search output is a problem because if I go to my Notes tool, you can see below that there are 68 Notes that I’ve already put under “Trinity” Notebook (and not 2 as per the Search output).

Wondering how to isolate the Notes with mytag:Trinity that have are not in the “Trinity” Notebook.

Thank you Dave. Unfortunately, my attachments didn't stick, it seems.

The search output said that only 2 of the results are in "Trinity" Notebook and the balance under the "No Notebook" category. When I select "Trinity" Notebook in the Notes tool, there are 68 of them (instead of 2 as indicated by the search output). I was trying to understand the discrepancy. I can confirm this discrepancy because when I click on the links from the search under the "No Notebook" category, many of them are already in the "Trinity" Notebook.

I hope I am being clear.

Another question if I may tack on...Next to each of the search link, there is sometimes a 5x, or 3x or 1x. What do these signify?

That the search term occurs 5 times, 3 times, or only once in the search unit (articles for books, verses for Bibles, note ...) For attachments you must use the paper clip or amber icon to upload the file; copy and paste does not work.

There may be 68 notes in the Notebook, but only two have the tag "trinity"? You can use the Filters sidebar under Tags to verify how many have that tag.

That is not clear. We need screenshots of the mytag: Search and screenshots of the Notes tool for each Notebook showing the Tags entry in the Filters sidebar.

Thank you MJ, but the number of times don't seem to match up for me. But that's ok for now because I just wanted to make sure that I don't have to click on 2 links if there is a 2x.

What you show here are the tags that start with Trinity (this is a search box). Select the Notebook from the Filters sidebar and then search for Trinity.

Thank you, Dave. Following your method helped isolate all the Notes like the way I wanted: those with “Trinity” tag but not yet put in the “Trinity” notebook. Thanks for pointing out that I needed to search for Trinity in the top box next to 3 vertical lines in the Notes tool.

Now I can see there are 22 Notes that have not yet been assigned to the “Trinity” Notebook. It is now easy to move them over to the “Trinity” Notebook

Instead I was searching using the magnifying glass in the Filters sidebar (as you pointed out). It shows all the tags, but doesn’t limit the Notes to only those containing the tags (you can see below there are 4424 Notes).

Good learning point for me. Thank you.

I have one clarification. If I use the overall Search function with the magnifying glass using Docs=Notes, I get the following.

How can I reconcile the numbers above (173 and 2) with that I get from searching Notes directly [corresponding numbers are 22 that are not in any Notebook and 122 (see below) that are in “Trinity” Notebook]

I’m trying to understand the difference in search outputs so I know which search to use when.

those containing the tags (you can see below there are 4424 Notes).

I mislead you about searching for tags in the Notes tool.

As per the Docs Search, only 173 of those 4424 Notes have tag "Trinity" (the search above only isolates Filters with that value).

You will have to click each tag value and change the Notebook of the Note(s) shown.

Thanks for pointing out that I needed to search for Trinity in the top box next to 3 vertical lines in the Notes tool.

Now I can see there are 22 Notes that have not yet been assigned to the “Trinity” Notebook. It is now easy to move them over to the “Trinity” Notebook

This search will only search the content of notes that you typed. It will not find tags with value "Trinity-".

Thanks a ton, Dave, for clearly pointing out the difference between searching for Trinity in the content of my Notes vs searching for Trinity in the tags of my Notes in the Notes tool. I had it all mixed up in my head.

I have one last question (hopefully).

I am trying to reconcile the numbers obtained using Search within the Notes tool with the number obtained using overall Search. Please see below 2 screenshots.

1A. If I went to the Trinity Notebook using the Filters available in the Notes tool, I found 152 results.

1B. Overall search in Content for “Trinity” but limited to Docs=Notes. I think I am effectively replicating the above search: searching for “Trinity” content in my Notes. I was expecting to see 137 results, all in the “Trinity” Notebook and none in the “No notebook” Notebook. But instead I find only 6 in the “Trinity” Notebook and 278 in the “No Notebook” Notebook (See screenshot below). When I clicked on some of the 278 results, I see that they are in fact in the “Trinity” Notebook, which is even more puzzling.

I know you’ve already spent a lot of time helping out, but if you have time to help me understand the reason for the difference in results, that would be awesome. Each search is doing something slightly different (apparently), and I have no clue what it is.

I've had this error the whole time that I've been dabbling with identifying Notes with Trinity - i.e., last week or so. I've tried rebooting multiple times. I'll try the Search again once this issue resolves itself (hopefully).

Thank you, Dave. I was hoping the indexing would go away so I don't have to collect logs. Sure enough, it went away today.[:)] All looks good now.

I have 166 Notes as per my Notes tools, and in those Notes there seem to be 243 tags with Trinity.

I clicked on a few Notes that had 3x next to it to confirm that each had 3 Trinity tags. So everything working as you had said. I can put this issue to rest.
