Grouping Books

For a while I've been thinking through how best to group books.

Many of you have given me great feedback, thanks!

I've ended up settling on a single system which is working great for me, 'Favourites'.

What I've been wanting to do is collect together my best commentaries into groups based on which book of the bible they cover.

I tried 'Tags' and also "Collections' but neither of those worked for what I needed.

Then I was reminded of 'Favourites' which does exactly what I wanted.

The fact you can 'Rename' the books after you've favourite them was an added bonus as they where coming in with the short name of the commentary, not the full name.

I've added a screen grab just to show what I've done.

The reason for posting was just to share this method incase later someone else is trying to do the same thing.

I had loaded up Favs in the distant past, then forgotten all I had put in there.

I am now deleting everything.

Thanks Matt. I do something similar as well but not just with commentaries. Another advantage is that you can move resources up and down in the folder or move them to another folder as well.

Thanks Matt. I've gone down the same route as you. I read a few books that ranked commentaries, then picked about 10 and rank ordered them based on my reading and put them on Favorites. I did 2 more steps. (i) I made a collection of these commentaries that I Favorited for each book of the Bible. (ii) I put them also under "Prioritized Resources" in the exact same rank order.

Now, this Collection shows up in Parallel Resources in the exact same order that your put them in "Prioritized Resources" so you don't have to remember the ranking or go back to Favorites. Renaming the book by giving a short name (I use "Series Acronym"-"Last name of Author") also really helps because you can quickly know the series and author name.

These 2 steps don't take much time, but the benefits accrue for a long time (until you change the list and rank of commentaries). See if it helps by doing it for one book of the Bible.

I do use Favorites... but with me... I load up my desktop with whatever books I want, commentaries, etc....then create a Layout and give it a name. For example, say I am studying the book of John... I load up my books I want along with my trusty ole NKJV... then save it as a Layout named John. When I want to study John again, I just open the Layout named John and walla... all I need to study John is before me, or at least what I used the last time.
