Is this how Search of Notes supposed to function?

Hi all,

I was searching for “Trinity” in the content of my Notes (and not in the tags of my Notes) and I found some odd behavior. So I decided to do some testing.

I created a Note and put it in “Test” Notebook and did search for “Trinity” on this single Note in the “Test” Notebook.

First, I put in “TrinityGod” in the content area, it gets picked up in the search. This is surprising to me because this tells me that the search algorithm is not looking for whole words

Second, I replaced it with “Trinity-God”; no problem, it gets picked up.

Third, I replace it with “-Trinity-God”. Again, gets picked up.

Finally, I replaced it with “Jesus-Trinity-God” and the Note doesn’t get picked up! What? If the search algorithm is not looking for whole words, why would this not get picked up?

Why is this the case? I am trying to understand the search logic so that I can structure my search better.

Did you actually search for "Trinity" (only the word Trinity in " ")? That should only pick up the single word Trinity in the content of your notes.

I put in Trinity without the quotes in the Search bar (not Filter search, which searches Tags) in the Notes tool.

I just now added the quotes, so I typed in "Trinity" and the results are identical to what I wrote in my original post.

Quotes are ignored, so you don't need them for a phrase.

Thank you very much, Dave. That is a subtle, but big difference. I am not sure how many Logos users are aware of this big difference.

I did some extra digging. I searched for "Metaphor" in my tags rather than in the content of my notes. Now, it pulls up ALL the instances where "Metaphor" is included in the tag, be it at the beginning of the tag or in the middle or not. It also doesn't matter if the tag is hyphenated or not. It also pulls up the tag "God-Metaphorical name-Rock" where :metaphor" is just part of the word. Thus the search of the tags is like the "CTRL+F" that we are all used to.

The question is: why is the search algo for Contents different from the search algo for Tags? Is there a purpose behind this? Or is it oversight, in which case it might deserve a second look to see if both search algos should be the same.
