It seems that we are still unable to create a new syntax search. We are limited to the pre-built searches only. The text is there, but you cannot select it.
you know you can create new Syntax Searches from the File menu, right? This button does exactly the same thing as choosing "Syntax Search" from the left-hand column in the File menu.
Well now I feel stupid...

I tried it, and it, well, crashed...

Restarting caused Document Manager to be re-built.

I restarted and tried again. I got one word entered before the Syntax Search disappeared. I selected the untitled search again and it was where it left off. I added a second word and then got the spinning wheel. I waited about five minutes and forced quit.

When you first start adding a word and only get a couple letters typed, the drop down is against the far left side of the screen. When the list of word is short, after you type more letters, it is at the point of text entry as expected. In the screen shot you will see that the input box labels are truncated.
Crashed again while trying to modify from a template.
