Collections

I'm trying to make a collection of all my favorite writers that I can search for scripture illustrations, commentary on a particular subject, etc.

I have started with John Bunyan by typing his name in the "start with books matching" field. I'm ready to add Dwight L. Moody (and others), but am stuck here. How do I get the books I have of Moody into this collection without removing Bunyan, which always happens when I type his name?

Try "author:Moody OR author:Bunyan" and so on.

To keep books from a rule, you can drag and drop them to the "+ plus these books", then type your next rule text.

Start as you did with one author in the "start with books matching",
then mark the resulting list and drag and drop them to the "+ Plus these books",
clear the author and put next author in the "start with books matching" rule box,
drag and drop the new results list books to the "+ Plus these books,
repeat for each author ....

A better solution might be what Justin suggested, because it would automatically add any book you add later on from any of these authors to your library. If you want to add another author to your favorite authors who is not yet in the list, you can just add it to the end of your search rule (OR author:NewAuthor)

Try "author:Moody OR author:Bunyan" and so on.

A more compact way is: author:(Moody,Bunyan) When you have an author like Smith, you will have to be more precise and use

author:(Moody,Bunyan, "Smith, Gary") --> specify lastname, firstname.

Thanks, all! You got me down the right track...maybe it's a new feature of Logos 10, but "author:moody, Bunyan, piper" is what did the trick. For some reason, OR, as well as parenthesis weren't working.

That is incorrect as it will give spurious results. Copy and paste author:(moody, Bunyan, piper) for precise results. There are no spaces before the first parenthesis.

This is helpful to me too. I've been wanting to peruse books by old timers in my library to then isolate a few to focus on.

Adding to Dave and hoping it will help you.

Say, you are looking for Moody. When the results show up, sort by "Author" and you will see "Moody, Josh" (at least in my library). These wrong ones can then be dragged into the "Minus these books" section to create a more precise list of books that match your requirement.

If you only want Dwight Moody, then use author:("Dwight Moody", Bunyan, Piper) ---> works the same as lastname then firstname!

If you suspect the Author is named differently in some of their books, then you might have to use the surname only and drag the wrong ones into the "Minus these books" section.
