Westminster Confession of Faith: WCF In-Line Notes in your Bible!

Logos Community,
I have created and shared a document (a Notebook), containing notes for each phrase of the entire Westminster Confession of Faith.
You can add the document to your logos library here: https://flshare.net/k45tf8
Once you add this document to logos, it does the following:
1) In your Bible, green star icons will appear before a biblical verse or passage that is referenced in the Confession (These can be turned on or off in the visual filters).
2) Hovering over a green star icon will show you the exact phrase where Westminster references the verse.
3) Clicking a green star icon will open up the note for that WCF phrase, showing you both the WCF phrase and whole WCF paragraph where that verse is referenced.
During your regular Bible reading/study, this will allow you to see how the verses in question are referenced by Westminster, essentially giving you a WCF Study Bible.
I have attached a PDF that explains how this can be used:
Please give it a try and let me know what you think!
Blessings,
Wesley W. Weber Jr.

Wow Wes, this looks great! I have watched you put this together and know you have put on a lot of work into this. Thank you! It has been great to be reading during my morning devotions and see a proof text. Then when studying a passage/verse in a commentary it is helpful to see where the WD have confessed a truth of scripture. I feel this will help those of us who subscribe to the Westminster Standards grow In our theology, and going from the Scriptures to the Confession is the proper way to go.

This is something I think Logos should be providing as part of its push to be useful to the "masses" with the long learning curve.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

During my regular Bible reading, I wanted to know where the Confession referenced the Scripture, so I created it using the notes tool. It took me awhile to figure out how I wanted the notes to look/function, and I decided it best to create 1 note per WCF proof-text'd phrase.... It took awhile, but the end result seems quite beneficial so far.
I have been wondering how this idea could be incorporated directly into Logos (visual filter, etc), but I am unsure.

You are welcome.
Please spread word that it is out there… If the community sees the benefit, I’ll work on doing the same with the Larger and Shorter catechisms.

Do you know if someone has this for the 1689 LBCF?

I seen one listed, but have not downloaded it to see to see if it looks as good.

Yes, there is one done by Paul Weir.Jonathan Bradley said:Do you know if someone has this for the 1689 LBCF?
It looks like he inputted and anchored each paragraph, not each individual phrase of the confession, so you will need to find where the proof text is used in the paragraph.

I have changed the name of the notebook to Westminster Confession: In-Line Notes
This will help in the Logos document search.

How do I find it? I'm well versed in using the Bible Software, but not finding documents...

Nevermind...I found it. I might edit it because I like how you have the WCF done. I'll definitely use this and, if you make them, the catechisms.

Working on the Catechisms now... trying to optimize the style for them for use with Logos. The idea behind these notes is that the proof texts are presented intuitively, so that, once the note is opened up, it is easy to click through to the verses in the Bible.

ya, that's pretty cool. Thanks,

Milkman,
The shared notebook does not affect highlighting (I responded to the thread above).
However, It may be that you are still active in the "Westminster Confession: In-Line Notes" notebook, when you are trying to highlight. Logos may think that you are trying to save the highlight (highlights are saved as notes) into the non-writable shared folder, and this is why your highlighting seems to have turned off.
Just a guess.

This is excellent. Thank you Wesley. [:)]
There are a few notes without Icons, is that intentional? WCF 1.1.a, WCF 4.2.g, WCF 19.1.a

Mal,
Thank you.
I fixed it, I must have accidentally missed a couple. Thank you for the heads up, and it should update for you.

Not sure what you mean by 'still active'?

Milkman,
I just confirmed what I suspected. I downloaded another user's notebook, and actively selected it - meaning that I had the notes tool open and that notebook selected. Sure enough, the highlighting tool stopped creating highlights.
Again this is because Logos is trying to create a highlight (which it stores as a note for some reason) in a shared folder that I do not have access to (the folder that someone else created).
I have attached an image of what it looks like to have your notes tool open, with a notebook actively selected. Be sure that you are not active in my shared folder.... and that your highlights are being stored in either no notebook, or a notebook of your own. This should restore your highlighting.

I think so too. If they do decide to do something like that, I hope they reach out, I have been busy trying to ensure the proof texts represent a combination of the American versions of the Confession (such as the OPC) and overseas versions such as with The Free Church of Scotland. That way, it will better serve the Reformed Logos community globally.
It is still in process, and will take me a couple months to complete this notebook fully, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Wesley,
I never use the notes feature in Logos, so I am clueless as to how it works. Is this something we could download and store on our hard drives, so that it would work when not online, or is it something that can only be used from a shared file over the net?
It sounds like a great tool, and a considerable investment of time on your part. I appreciate you being willing to share it with everyone.

Al,
When you connect the note to your Logos account or copy the notes, if you will, it will become "part" of your library and usable on your devices. It should work offline as well. I've not tried it offline yet, but I can only imagine that it would work. With that being said, I'm going to try it offline now.

if you add the document (which is a notebook in the notes tool), and once it is added, yes it downloads locally and functions similar to a book or any other resource. It will also update as I update.
If you refer to my original post and the attached .pdf, it will show you how to add it and turn the Westminster Confession In Line notes on and off via the visual filters.
Blessings!

I turned off my wifi connection and closed out Logos, relaunched Logos, and the notebook file for the WCF and the one I'm working on for the 2LBCF work just fine.

I've made one for the 1689 that is done more like yours. It might not be as polished, but I like it the way you did it. Also, I realized about 1/4 the way in that I was using a poorly edited personal book (that was sent to me) so some of the proof texts were off. I'm fairly certain that I've fixed them all, but if not, please let me know.

I was going to joke about how it is fitting that the 1689 Logos notes would be copied/formatted almost identically to Westminster, but without the polish. 😀. It’s like deja-vu all over again.
Kidding!

Thanks! Two questions:
1. I see the note is locked, does this mean that as you/if you edit it all who connected to it will receive "edits?" (I am new to the idea)
2. Can we change the note color or is that unchangeable?

Once the Notebook has been submitted to the public space only the original author may change/edit it. All changes will be updated for all users.

Once you attach yourself to it, you cannot change much. However, you can go in and make a duplicate copy. That will be a copy into your documents that you can change at will, but that copy won't get any edits/changes that are made by the author.
Hope this helps.

It is neat to turn on thee notes for the 1689, because I can hover over the 1689 and right next to it is Westminster using the same proof text, and I can easily see any changes of wording, etc.
Good stuff!
Good work here.

Wesley, I'm tempted to try something similar of my own with the Heidelberg Catechism. Would you be happy for me to use the same formatting you've used for the WCF in-line notes?

Please do. I had Heidelberg in the cue, and, with seminary, it is taking me awhile to finish the Westminster Shorter and (eventually) the Longer.
Heidelberg has only a few proof texts (so far as I am aware), how do you plan to tag it to the Scriptures?
0 -
Eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a van down by the river.

Thanks mate, appreciate it. I'll tag it in the same manner you did, with each footnote having its own note and anchored scriptures. Currently using the same note icon but with different colour, but that can change whenever if need be.
