I am thinking about doing a sermon series on the life of Christ. As far as I can see, there are two ways of doing this: 1) try to present a fairly chronological outline of his life using the four Gospels in harmony; or, 2) pick one of the Gospels and look at the life of Jesus as that writer presents it.
I am aware of the dangers of over-harmonising the four Gospels, however, I would prefer the first option if I could do it without falling into the proverbial ditch.
However, I need some recommendations on both academic and popular level treatments of Jesus of Nazareth. I have a decent sized library, but there is a vast number of resources both in my library and in the bookstore on Jesus (e.g., classic biographies, christological works, intros to the Gospels, not to mention 'good' but not 'excellent' resources), and I am not sure how to sift through them both to find what I need without spending an inordinate amount of time.
So, any suggestions?
