David discrepancy in results

I searched David in the NKJV desktop and it gave me 1,086 times while in the Mobile App it gives me 1,140 results. I want to mention in my class the number of times David’s name appears, but now I don’t know which number to tell the class. So which result is accurate?

The odd thing is that searching for Jesus and Moses gives me identical results on both desktop and Mobile App, except David.

You might be using the Concise NKJV on the mobile. (If I was guessing, your desktop is pulling in pronouns, but just guessing).

But why would the concise mobile version give me more results? And why would the desktop pull pronouns when all I typed was David? I wonder how accurate Logos is then if we have to guess which results to choose.

Oh well, I’ll go for the mobile results which is closer to what google mentions anyway.

I simplified, I just went for the 1140 times on David 😂

The difference is due to whether or not Match all forms is set (it looks as though this is the default on mobile but can be switched on desktop).

With this enabled on desktop, the desktop and mobile results are the same. Differences are things like David's in 1 Sam 20:16 not matching on desktop unless the Match all forms setting is selected.

Interesting. I decided to do a quick check myself, but it turned out not to be as quick as I thought [:)]

But its good, I learned how to create a verse list and export it. Seemingly simple tasks, that are very difficult for someone new to the software.

Here is what I found:

My L10 Windows version reports in NKJV:

David 1086 results in 934 verses

David* 1140 results in 969 verses

David with "Match all forms" button selected gave same results as David*

person:David 3993 results in 1464 verses

My old Bibleworks 9 in NKJV:

David 1087 results in 935 verses

David* 1141 results in 970 verses

I was curious why Bibleworks found one more verse than Logos did.

After a lot of time I finally isolated it to Psalm 7:1

It apparently missed Psalm 7:1 because the text is not included in the verse, it is added as a title.

The ESV and a couple other Bibles are the same.

I don't know how the mobile app handles it, I'm still learning the desktop [:)]

This is untrue. person:David picks up everywhere Logos has tagged as David including pronouns and implied subjects. David picks up the string of letters ... Note that most Logos tagging is against the original language aligned to the translation not to the translation itself.

The number for "David" will vary with the translation because it either omits or adds the name coming from the original language.

The actual number is 1134 as it is consistent across the major GNT's and Hebrew bibles

Yes it could possibly vary, although I would hope not by much.

I counted in the NKJV because that is what the OP was counting.

Depends on what you mean by "much" ... any count applies only to one particular text/translation ... texts and translation may represent different canons and/or different treatment of textual additions .amd/or complexity of sentences (simple English normally has a higher count of explicit subjects ...) ...

Yep. Things were so much simpler back then when everybody used the same old KJV, and the Strongs concordance had the different English words used in the AV and their count. [H]

Now we have trouble counting how many new translations there are. New ones come out all the time. I used to know all the major English translations in use, and the dates of all the revisions of each one. I sure can't keep up with it anymore.

I've never used the KJV, My baptismal Bible given to me in 1955 had updated language. Strong's I never heard of until I was an adult. I did know Halley's Handbook as pretty much the only aid to Bible study beside the maps and tables at the back of the Bible.
