Results in BSL matching a given Sense vs Results as per BSL Sense search

I was in Phil 1:18 and the word “rejoice” in ESV. I wanted to see all the other verses with the same sense. See below the snip from BSL.

As you can see above, there are 166 results.

Question #1: Don't know whether 166 refers to verses or instances?

I then hit the magnifying glass to search and get these 166 results. Please see below the snip from the search screen.

As you can see, there are 193 results in 153 verses. Both numbers don’t match 166. You will notice that I put the “=” sign to ensure I don’t pick the subordinate results.

Could someone, please, explain how to resolve the discrepancy?

The source of tagging in Logos is the LHB and SBLGNT, so searching these two should give the stated 166.

I used a Series link (mine!), but you could use a Collection for the two bibles. However, the term I got from BSL was sense:"to rejoice (feeling)", and I had to insert the = sign**. So BSL is misleading. I tried a few other senses to be certain about this:

sense:"to cause to rejoice" was OK because it has no child senses
sense:"to rejoice together" was OK because it has no child senses
sense:sadness was not OK as it has children. It had to be sense:=sadness

The count could be off by one or two, though. So I wonder if BSL is not uptodate.

** the right-click Context menu uses the = sign.

I was able to replicate the 165 results by forming a collection of the 2 original language Bibles (as you suggested).

It looks like the 165 occurrences were contained in 65+88=153 verses

Then I wanted to reconcile the 165 with the 194 we get from a search on the ESV (See below)

Well, the number of verses matched in both (153). So why more with the ESV?

It appears that the extra English words needed to translate the original language lemmas are counted as occurrences as we you can see from the example below for just one verse.

That is why we find 193 occurrences with the ESV whereas there are only 165 occurrences with LHB+SBLGNT.

If my educated guess is correct, then the English Bible occurrences will always be more than LHB+SBLGNT combined? Am I right?

I am sure this is all old news for people who are seeped into Logos, but I am slowly gaining in knowledge of the use of Logos.

The thought is correct, but the way the English words are related in the Interlinear will determine the count:

In Mt 2.10 both words are tagged.

But the count is 1 because they are related (the arrow) and adjacent i.e. 1 "blue" column.

In Lk 10.20 both "do" and "rejoice" are tagged.

Though they are related (the arrow with the 5), they are not adjacent, so the count is 2 i.e. two 'blue" columns.

Although slightly different, think of person:Jesus which covers "Jesus Christ" in Mt 1:1. The count is 1

The Jesus example, especially, was super helpful to drill the logic into my head.
