Is it possible to do a morphological search for a noun with its definite article. I am interested in searching the Greek text for all of the occurrences of πίστις with the definite article ["the faith"].
I would probably do that search with a Syntax search, as it seems better for finding structures with relationships. I did this one:
and it found 130 results of any specifier along with "faith" lemma...
I got 6 results by using syntax search as follows:
Under search, select syntax search, all passages, and Cascadia Syntax Graphs of the New Testament.
To the right of "Cascadia Syntax Graphs... there is another drop down menu entitled Query. Select "Query" and then "English Prepositional Object" from the list.
Then in the search box type "the faith" (make sure it's in quotes) and hit go. You should come up with 6 results.
Hope this helps.
George
Thanks, Dominick. BUT I've forgotten how to bring up the search criterion [like Head Term, Modifier]. When I click QUERY I don't get any of these choices.
I found it, Dominick [by going to FILE<NEW SYNTAX SEARCH]. Thanks! It worked well.
Dominick,
Do you [or anyone else] know how to search for this phrase in Cascadia Stntax Graphs?
I figured out how to do it. [I hope you can see my printscreen all right.] However, it appears as if the Cascadia search is somewht more accurate than the Open Text.org search. For example, I noticed that 2 Cor 4:13 was NOT included in the Orpen Text.org search [and it should have been] whereas 2 Cor 5:7 WAS included in the Open Text.org search [and it should not have been]. However, the Cascadia search got it right. The Cascadia search yielded 113 results.

Hi Bill,
OpenText works as well, your example of 2 Cor 4.13 proves why it's always good to be doing some looking around to see the constructs of verses you want to find (if you look at some of the videos on strategies for doing syntax searching it explains this).
If you take my original example and just make the Modifier and Word "Matching skips levels", 2 Cor 4.13 shows up, and there are now 171 results. This is because in 2 Cor 4.13, "faith" is not just a word with a specifier modifying it, but the word is acting as a qualifier of the word spirit (you can see this by opening OPenText.org Clause Analysis resource to that verse). By adding the Matching Skips levels it accounts for any places where faith is being used in a special syntactic function.
Hope that helps!
As regards to 2 Cor 5:7, that showed up because my original query was finding all specifiers. If you just wanted "of", change the query to this:
Thanks, Dominick. All of that is very helpful. BUT I can't seem to find the LEMMA ὁ when I bring up WORD 2 for this search.
Thanks for asking the question Bill. I new the answer would lie in a syntax search but have not spent enough time (too little actually) with this tool to be able to answer your question so thanks for those who chimed in with some answers.
If you don't have a Greek keyboard, just go to 2 Cor 5:24 in the OpenText.org Syntactically Analyzed Greek New Testament: Clause Analysis resource. Find the line in that verse with "of" showing on the right. Right click on the Greek word τῆς, in the right column of the box that shows you will see
"Lemma ὁ".
Click on it, and then in the left column click Copy. This you can then paste into the Lemma line of the word 2 options. It won't suggest anything just hit enter or click on the -> on the right side of the box. I think the drop down suggestions don't include articles or something.
Make sense? I can build some pictures if this doesn't work but I thought this might get an answer to you faster!
Thanks, Dominick. It worked. But that brings up the question of a Greek keyboard. Does a Greek keyboard exist within Logos 4?
Ask and ye shall have!

Thanks, Dominick!
BUT now I have another question. For some reason my lemma box [in the syntax query] won't recognize my greek font. [However it may be the order in which I type ̔ο or ὁ]. Any suggestions about that?
Not on that one, maybe one of the Greek experts has an idea...
I don't know why the lemma box doesn't seem to want to produce the article. I have the same problem. I use a work-around of specifying article with morphology. Since Greek only has one article it's essentially the same as using a lemma.
Dominick, Do you [or anyone else] know how to search for this phrase in Cascadia Stntax Graphs?
Technically Word1 is not needed since the Terminal Node above it should always precede an article.
Thanks, Kevin. BUT where [in the dialogue boxes for OpenText.org syntax searches] do you find article with morphology?
Thanks, Dominick.
For whatever it may be worth, here [attached] is my diagram of the Greek and Hebrew keyboards.

Bill, This is what I meant
Thanks, Kevin. It worked very well.
