Logos Packages - Future Upgrades, and Other Questions

Hello, all,

A friend and I have been studying using Logos lately, and the information in the "Starter" package looks pretty appealing.

Some questions that I have, if anyone happens to know based on historical upgrades:

1. Is there a discount available when new versions are released, since you own the content at that point anyway? (as I would imagine it would be the software upgrade, rather than the content)

2. When a new version of Logos is released, do features in the Online version get limited for users that have not upgraded?

3. Is there a good resource that goes over differences in software features available between free vs. the paid options? For example, the "Exegetical Guide" page (https://www.logos.com/features/exegetical-guide) says it's only available in Starter and up, whereas we're able to see and use it in the free version of both installed and online (albeit with a more limited set of resources).

Welcome to the forums. First of all for books you will never pay for it the same resource twice. That's called dynamic pricing. I believe that also applies to features. So Future upgrades you only pay for is new to you. Every package release they have new features so there may come a day when you require no more books but you should acquire the features every rotation to keep your software up to date.

Oh, good to know! Any idea approximately what the upgrade costs each cycle? (for, say, Starter) Wondering if it will be close to the full cost, or if the resources take up a substantial portion of the cost.

There are two 'discounts' when new libraries are released. The first is the reduction in price due to resources and tools you already own. That's dynamic pricing as Matt pointed out.

The second is a 15% discount (at least that's what it's been in the past) for the first upgrade you take when new libraries are released.

When a new version of the software is released, you lose nothing you already have in functionality. Logos actually releases updates and enhancements every six weeks. They are currently on version 28. Exactly what they will do at some point when they have new features and datasets to release is unclear. In the past these were released every two years. Again, no functionality was ever lost, but you had to have a paid upgrade to get these new features and datasets. These can be purchased without purchasing any new resources (a new Starter Library, for example) via a feature upgrade package.

I believe I paid ~$200 to upgrade the full feature set from Logos 8 to Logos 9 and ~$150 for Logos 9 to Logos 10. With a larger user base, perhaps the upgrade from Logos 10 to Logos 11 will be even less.

I saw 30% discount in I think Logos 7 or 8 for Faithlife Connect subscripers.
