sprinkling of blood in 1 Peter 1

1 Peter 1:2 ESV "According to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you." I have started my study of 1 Peter. I noticed that sprinkling in 1 Peter 1:2 is a noun. Sprinkling is the indirect object of blood. An indirect object is terminology to describe a relationship with a verb but the "blood" is not a verb. Sprinkling is in the genitive because it is the object of the preposition εἰς. Can someone clarify? I also see this as an allusion to Exodus and the covenant. Can the sprinkling of blood that the verse is saying be understood as a metaphor for holy purification?

    Take a look at Num 19:9 which in the LXX, uses the same concepts (and specific greek word).  I'm not big on linking the NT to the OT ('it all depends'), but I'm currently struggling thru a book by a nameless writer, who discusses the connect (Jewish perspective regarding Jesus).
