Do I have permission to reference Calvin's Commentaries?

I would like to refernce and quote some of John Calvin's work in my studies and post them on a Christian blog but I don't want to infringe on copy rights; am i allowed to do this? If I am where would i find the permission in my software? It would be a great dissapointment if I purchased a study reference like Calvin's Commentaries and then not be allowed to qoute it in my studies... Thanks, Eric

Eric, when a resource is open click on the little i in the circle to the right of the reference window. Look for 'Copyright'. Calvin's commentaries are in the public domain so you can quote and reproduce the text freely.

As Mark mentioned Calvin's works are in the public domain. You could publish an entire copy of it if you wanted.

For works under copyright the question is one of fair use. You are allowed to copy excerpts necessary to discuss or review the work as long as you don't reproduce a substantial portion of the work. How much is substantial? There isn't a clear guide to that but you might ask yourself "did I reproduce enough that it might discourage someone from buying a copy of this work?" If you are in doubt you can write to publisher of the book and ask for permission.

Thank you both for the iinfo:) I actually read up on "fair use" right after i posted this but it is good to know for sure that i won't be infringing, and I'll only be using a couple paragraphs of John Calvin's work. Thanks again, Eric
