More detail would be appreciated. Are you on Mac Sonoma beta?
Is the black panel present when you open a Search from the toolbar?
Does it work with a wider panel e.g. open in a floating window?

I am using Monterrey on this particular machine.
Yes, the black panel is present when opening the search window.
I get the same result with floating window.
I can use the search function in Bible pane, however.

I misspoke. The black panel is not present when opening the search. It appears when the search is attempted.
