ATTN Mark Barnes: Is this really how you want it to work?

29.09 beta 4 Verbum/Mac -

Check out the picture of the Explore section below, and the card choices. As you know, Explore takes up the bottom half of the Home Page. But as you can see, this morning there are only 7 cards total. If you can see what's checked,

- There are only 2 excerpts.

- There are no Pre-pubs (that's a real shock)

- Only 1 Today in Christian History (which may be all there are today)

- 4 blog entries

If blog entries were turned off, there would only be 3 cards! What's the point?

Also, fyi - "From Your Library" is now turned off - the cards are twice as big as any of the other ones. It's overwhelming. Verse of the Day and Feature Suggestions are the same way, it's been that way for years though.

What's the purpose of an Explore section that shows so little? Why don't you just remove the section if you don't like it?

You asked for feedback. This feature has really been broken in the interest of "improvement", imho.

If it is going to stay that way, maybe a refresh button would be nice, a sort of FSD for your cards.

There is a refresh - F5. It didn't change the quantity or mix though.

Thanks for the screenshot, Don. That's helpful. I can see that with the items that you have selected, the section looks a little sparse.

We do only have one Today in Christian History event for 15 October, but there are three for today (16th) and two each of the next several days after that.

I don't understand why there are no Pre-Pubs. I can replicate that problem, so we'll look to get that fixed as we also take on board the other feedback you have given.

We've now found the bug that prevented pre-pubs from displaying. We should be able to fix that server-side. Once we've done that, you'll start to see these back in the Explore section. Thanks for the report!

Thanks Mark, and thanks for looking into the other feedback - some of which is aesthetics, but why not make it look nicer since it's the face of the application?

One other thought - maybe for the number of cards issue, a setting for number of cards to display - something like "Basic", "Default", "Full"?

RC1 has doubled the number of excerpt cards. We've also fixed the missing pre-pub problem (that was fixed server-side, so it's not in the notes). So while there are still fewer cards than in v28, there should be more than there was when you raised the issue.

Thanks Mark. Yes, better than the first attempt. The cards still frequently populate with large gaps on the home Page, a problem that cropped up when you all started tinkering with it. I just keep hitting F5 until the page populates properly. I suspect that due to less cards being displayed you'll never be able to rid the page of the gaps, there just isn't enough to work with.

To be honest I am still not happy that without warning or discussion you greatly reduced the number of cards, as it was very useful to me; especially since there were other solutions that could easily offer users a choice of more or less cards. But it is what it is.
