In both IOS and Windows, my desktop apps have been constantly crashing when trying to create a new note. I have Logos software version 28.3.44. No other problems have been detected, but this most recent release has been giving me problems on BOTH Mac and PC desktop versions.

Not finding lots of corroboration on the forum. Anyone else having this problem with the latest software version (Sept. / Oct. 2023)?

Bumping in hopes of getting an answer.

Other users have not reported this. So:

    1. Exactly how do you create a (new) note?
    2. Does it crash for Notes by Reference or Selection (or both)?
    3. Does it crash in a resource?
    4. Does it crash creating notes in the Notes tool?
    5. After a crash, and before restarting Logos, upload application logs using the paper clip icon.

Thanks Dave. Ah...I'll wrap my head around uploading the application logs before a restart next time. I'm not seeing that option, but I do have my settings configured to share crash info with Logos developers. I'll dig a bit more.

For a quick reply here, the crashes happen in the notes tool, when I click the NEW NOTE button in the top right.

Addendum: As a work-around, I have to highlight the source, which creates a note. Then, I can go to Notes and remove the highlighting. But consistently, NEW NOTE (not created from highlighting a resource) is causing the crashes.

Just click the hyperlink (blue) in my previous post.

It makes a lot of difference when you state NEW NOTE  vs "new note"!

I hope this is following the correct procedure.

The crash states "'style' is invalid: 'highlight' of 'custom' requires 'markupStyle' to be set."

How are you applying New Note?

    • Do you click the button, or
    • select one of the options from the drop-down? Which one?
    • does it crash with all options

If you apply a Note in the resource in the same way, does Logos crash. Note that  the button and its options applies a note by reference unless you select text in the resource (or select the Highlight option).

    Thanks Dave.

Well... Not sure how, but I JUST tested both options on my Mac -- NEW NOTE button and "new note" option from dropdown arrow -- and I was able to create notes using either option. The problem has been resolved on my Mac.

FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT READ THIS POST,  here was my answer to Dave before the problem was resolved.

The crash happened in both instances, when I would select NEW NOTE or when I chose an option from the drop-down arrow next to NEW NOTE.

It did NOT happen when I created a note or highlight from within a resource. And I could highlight, write notes, add anchors, etc. from within a note once it had been created from selected text in a resource.

Another way to say this is that crashes happened whenever I tried to create a Note WITHOUT a reference or anchor.

(I often want to create a Note inside a notebook that doesn't have an anchor text, and I did this regularly in previous versions. Strangely, this problem started happening with Logos software versions 28 and 29 in both Windows (not sure which version) and MacOS (Ventura 13.6 and previous version) on my MacBook Pro.)

Again, on my Mac, the problem has been resolved. Will test my PC tomorrow at work.

THANK YOU for your response, Dave.

I am now having this problem. I am unable to create a new note unless I highlight. Logos 29.1.22. I don't understand what the solution was.

For me it crashes when I click "new note", when I hit the arrow and select "New note". It also crashes if I select text in a Bible resource and right click, then either by reference or selected text, I choose a notebook under "add a note" it crashes. The only way for it to not crash is to click one of the highlights. I can then go into the note and turn the highlight off and choose an icon.

This issue started very suddenly and it happens on all my synchronized devices. Yesterday it was working fine.
