Logos 10 [28.3.44] is now very slow and hangs all the time

Slow tab switching, Logos hangs and then acts like it is about to crash (the red X to close in the title bar suddenly becomes the only usable option) for over 10 seconds.

  • System: Logos 10 [28.3.44], Windows 10, SSD, 12gb RAM
  • Layout: 6 tabs. 3 tabs have other resources open with them. So in all, 8 books are open, along with "Search" and "Text Comparison". Also, 7 resources are linked.

Months ago I had been using some previous version of Logos and it was generally okay in it's speed (only about 1-3 seconds max) when switching between tabs, all without an SSD (solid state hard drive).

My new SSD works fine with everything else, yet Logos [version 28+] has slowed down with at least 5+ seconds when clicking on another tab. And after switching tabs about a dozen times, Logos acts like it is about to crash and hangs us for around 10+ seconds!

It is all so frustrating and Logos becomes outright undesirable to use. I'll try a reinstall, yet I'm posting this to see if others are encountering something similar with these new Logos editions.

It happens occasionally (from reports in the forums). I would like to know the size of your SSD, the amount of free space and your processor's specs.

I don't know if a reinstall will fix it, but do try it.

I should add that this is all single monitor, and that within Logos it is only 2 tiles.
No other software has trouble accessing the SSD; as every other piece of software is noticeably faster at launching, re-launching, and accessing alot of data... except Logos. With each Logos update, it becomes noticeably slower and frustrating. There are crashes as well.

    Overall specs:

    - Windows 10
    - AMD Ryzen 3 2200U with Radeon Vega (2495 Mhz, 4 logical processors, 2 physical processors)
    - 930gb SSD / 284gb free space
    - 12gb RAM

The SSD is error-free and has run perfectly for several months now.

Windows 10 has not had any large updates.

The video/graphics card is old, yet still highly capable at everything else without any slowdown involving browsers and graphic intensive games that constantly access the HD. (The "hardware acceleration" option changes nothing.)

As you were not sure if a reinstall will fix it, perhaps I will downgrade to 27 should the install files be available. I thought there had been an edition of 28 that ran well, yet the number escapes me... or perhaps I had been thinking of some 27 edition.

Holy cow! I just checked out the newest system requirements page... I don't remember Logos 9 being this bad! Was it?

    • Latest generation quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (or AMD equivalent)
    • 16GB of RAM

That's crazy for this software... if you could see the graphics intensive games that I daily run on this machine (with barely a frame drop) and yet that is not enough for a localized HTML-style browser with database search? Gimme a break. 1400 dollars invested in molasses. (Sorry, but as you can see from my machine specs, I'm not wading in cash, or some greedy university which gets constant donations, so 1400 dollars is way over my investment budget already.)

And where can I even download older editions of Logos to use? At least help me out there.

I would say that your machine is quite capable of running Logos efficiently. I have a gaming spec i5-11400H, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD and do not use the video card for Logos.

By the newest update 29.0.14 (and yes I'm a glutton for punishment by updating when I logically thought to downgrade)... some tabs are now instantaneous, which is great.

For instance, when switching between "books" then it is still sluggish, yet when switching to "Search" or "Text Comparison" it is very fast.

As with the solution to the recent footnote problem, thanks to the developers for fixing (at least in part) this issue as well.

This is now with Logos 29.0.14 and perhaps this screenshot may be somewhat helpful.

During a moment of Logos completely freezing up for about 7+ seconds, there was a sudden small black pop-up box with a circle in it, the tab I had clicked on disappeared, and then appeared again.

What tab?  What is the significance of the arrow at top right?

Please provide logs the next time this happens (as well as a screenshot and description).

I don't remember exactly which tab (yet it was likely either the Merriam-Webster or Geneva/RHSB/TSK one), as the error of "Not Responding" happens with them all.

The other arrow, aside from the black box, was just to point out how Windows was showing there was the usual "Not Responding" event going on.

I'll check out the log info link you provided.
