Just experienced the SLOW Verbum start

I don't close the app much, but I restarted my MacBook Pro , ran Verbum, it took almost 2 minutes to come up - well over a minute of the splash screen showing on the screen, then about 20 seconds before the Home Page came up. The first time it happened I did a force kill of the app as I thought it was hung/frozen.

The other annoying thing it does now, while the splash screen was up, with multiple full screen pages up that I swipe between as I have som other apps running full screen, the splash screen was on top of every full screen page I swiped over! It totally took over enough of the center of the display at all times that nothing else could be done while waiting for it. Tacky!!!

Verbum/Mac, ver 29.0.14. If you need logs let me know. PS - this is an M2 MacBook Pro fully loaded, it USED to come up the Home Page in about 5 seconds.

EDIT: tried 2 more times, once after a Mac restart once not - and it did not happen. So it seems to be intermittent, which is why some users see it and some don't.

Logos/Verbum has housekeeping tasks it has to do periodically; some of them are more likely to occur on the first run of a new major version as internal data formats may have been updated. This will cause the splash screen to appear for longer. Force-killing the application may have interrupted a database transaction and required the application to rebuild a database from scratch on the next startup. (Without logs, this is all supposition and guesswork, but seems plausible to me.)

So it seems to be intermittent

This is consistent with my guess above.

I've reported this to the team to investigate.

Sounds reasonable given the length of time it took. If it happens again I'll close the app and send the logs.

    Thanks Bradley!
