Logos slow

I've noticed that the more bibles I open, the slower logos gets, especially when clicking on search results.

I open two ESV's and then do some search, and start clicking on search results. SLOW!

If I close the bibles, and do the same search, speed is good.

So, I go back and open ESV's and start disabling things under visual filters. seems to be better, but not for sure.

How can I have multiple bibles open with visual filter items selected and have logos perform well?

Yes, definitely have an SSD.

With those specs I wouldn't expect you to see the problems you are having.

I suggest enabling diagnostic logging, opening the multiple Bibles with visual filter items selected and then run the searches that are performing slowly.

Then shutdown Logos and post your logs in a reply to this thread (use the paperclip icon to do this)

Well, I can't reproduce the issue now. It's not the actual search that was the issue, it was opening and closing each resource in the search results that took forever. And closing was the worst. Closing a resource took longer than opening it.

I thought I had it narrowed down to multiple bibles, but maybe wrong. I'll have to continue to try to find the scenarios that end up taking many seconds to open/close resources.

I did use the option of the ctrl-click to open Logos for logging. That seemed to run even quicker than normal opening of Logos.

I guess I still have spend time figuring out when/how the slowness starts occurring. It's not index related, as I try to do this analysis when index isn't running.

I'll post some logs when I can reproduce some slowness.

I do see things in the logs like:

Are you sure you don't have a Visual Filter defined that uses an Intertext Label?

Creating Visual Filter documents will slow down your system, even if they're not enabled on the Visual Filters menu in the resources you're opening. There are two workarounds:

Delete the documents (if you're not using them anymore)
Change the VF documents to only run in a book or Bible you never open (e.g., a papyrus fragment or a foreign language Bible). This keeps the document in your system (in case you do ever want to use it again) but doesn't take up any system resources unless you open that specific Bible.

Thanks for that tip. I deleted a few visual filters that were using Label Intertext. That seemed to help a lot. I guess I will need to redesign some of the other visual filters that I don't normally use, to tag them to some resource I don't normally use.

Bob, I have many filters - but point them to Malachi in the Amplified Bible. When I want to use them, I switch them to the appropriate book or group of books in the NRSV or NABRE. I find this solves the slowness problem.

After redesigning my visual filters and deleting a few, all my issues with performance have disappeared.
