I was reading the resurrection of the Son of God by N. T. Wright and he says that: logosres:ressonofgod;ref=Page.p_446;off=382 (I cannot get it to hyperlink)

"The normal meaning of mone, though, is of the temporary resting-place, or way-station, where a traveller would be refreshed during a journey."

I believe that Wright's reference to the new earth and heavens as happening after we go to heaven is what this discussion is lacking. Accordingly, the "monai" are only temporary residences until heaven and earth unite. When I listened to him being questioned, he wasn't entirely comfortable with the word transient since it suggested that eternity is ephemeral. Wright does, however, have a point if we agree that the new earth and heavens will occur at a later date than when we die. He is a little hazy on the precise timeline of events during the transitional period between death and resurrection, which I suppose is intentional given the Bible. I only see this term being referenced twice in the New Testament: Gospel of John. Is there any source in logos that confirms the normal meaning of the word "mone" as a "temporary" place of rest?

To explore this, I would run a Bible Word Study Guide on the word and see what the linked lexicons stay.

Eschatological hermeneutics also play their part in the timeline e.g. dispensationalism. The word could denote both temporary (to the traveller) and permanent "rooms" (to the provider). In this context also consider 1 Thess 4:17b.
