Eerdmans withdrawing book

Someone else pointed out on another forum that Eerdmans is withdrawing Ancient Wisdom: An Introduction to the Sayings Collections by Walter T. Wilson. So buy it while it's still available if you want it.

Eerdmans' statement: “Effective immediately, Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing is withdrawing Ancient Wisdom: An Introduction to the Sayings Collections, by Walter T. Wilson (published March 2022, ISBN 9780802875433), and declaring it out of print. Eerdmans adheres to the highest standards with regard to proper documentation in its academic books. This book does not meet those standards”

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess the author didn't document his sources properly. The book is probably still of some value, but I'm going to add a note to it (copying the Eerdmans' statement) so that I don't accidentally use it for any scholarly or publication work.

This is surprising news, since the book looks pretty well documented to me, but I guess there are lapses we aren't aware of.

Is this the new, polite way to say plagarism? I still chuckle that my name first appeared in academic print in a book where the author credited me because I had found a reference that he used -- literally only given him the reference. The same time, a professor in another department from whom I taken several classes was fired for stealing a graduate student's work and presenting it as her own.

Interesting. Searching for that title and "plagiarism" turned up a reference to someone who suspected Walter T. Wilson of also engaging in possible plagiarism in his EEC volume on Matthew, though that is still available for sale. When someone is sloppy in their scholarship, it can span across much of their work. I hope Dr. Wilson learns his lesson and does better.

On the title, on the title page. I suppose one could also use a tag: "withdrawn-plagiarism".
