Print feature...

Hello Logos 4 Mac,

Thank you for your hard work. This is coming together nicely and quick. I have a couple questions regarding one feature.

Just a few releases ago I could print. Although it was very limited I was able. Some time recently the print feature went away.

1) Is this feature coming back?

2) Will we be able to tell it how many pages to print? (it was only pulling up 2 pages of current resource)

Are you sure you weren't playing with the PC Beta? I don't think printing has made it over to the Mac side yet.

Yeah, I'm sure. I haven't used the Windows version since Logos 3 for Mac came out. I even had Logos tech support, a few weeks back, on the phone trying to figure out how to make the print feature print more than 2 pages.

At that time, it was "Print what it brings up" or "Copy and Paste" to Word/Pages.

My guess is the Mac developers started working on the feature and some of it leaked into a previous Beta release by mistake.

I'm hoping, however, that the print feature is planned on being released before or with the October "go public" release date.

As well, that you can tell the print feature what to print.

So, if you're working in Shedd's Dogmatic Theology and you want to print the chapter on Christ's Impeccability you can tell it to print pages 321-336 (made up #s).

This is what I'm hoping the print feature is capable of doing.

This is possible in the Windows version (see below screenshot; the print tool is really quite slick) so it will eventually be possible on the Mac. But don't expect to see it in October. I suppose they could surprise it, but they have made it pretty clear that the features we have now is what will be released in October. Bug fixes, optimization, and improvements will continue, but no new features will be added until after the October release. But that they are already working on printing is an encouraging sign. Probably soon after the October release they will start a new Mac beta and we'll get access to printing.

That's nice looking. I cannot wait for that to be enabled in the Mac version.

It makes "take home" note reading very nice and easy.

I hadn't heard that the Public release in October was what we have now. Seems a little weird to release something as Public and no longer beta. Then to turn around and start releasing beta again.

I thought the public release was supposed to be when it was caught up with Windows and from then on new features and updates would be across the board.

Nothing so glamorous. If you create a new Mac application in XCode, it automatically gives you a Print menu item that does the dumbest thing possible. We simply forgot to remove it until recently.

To those who are hoping that printing will make it into the October release: we've already stated clearly on several threads that this will be a post-4.0 feature (just as it is for the Windows product).

Sort of, but not entirely. The print feature and sentence diagram feature are part of the Windows 4.1 beta, they are not yet part of the official Windows release. So when the Mac version is released, it will be pretty close to where the Windows version is now.

That said, my original expectation was the official Mac release would be in line with the original Windows release, but the Mac devs have beaten my expectation by including most of the features that have been added since the original Windows release.

The Mac devs have said elsewhere that the 4.1 release should be the last release where the Windows and Mac versions are not in full parity. From then on, the versions should be the same. So in October we will receive Logos 4 for Mac and the devs will probably start releasing 4.1 beta.
