Also, a lot of people will say to be patient and wait for sales, an approach I heartily endorse.

I have also gotten many commentaries and Bibles from base packages, which are frequently on sale.

Finally, make sure you get the free book of the month, too. (Even though there are never Bibles and rarely any commentaries in recent history, it doesn't hurt.)

Buy what you need when you need it.

Buy what you want when it is cheap and when there is nothing else you need and you have taken care of the duty to share.

These Legacy Libraries give you quite a number of Bibles and Commentaries. What type of commentary you want though will require on your needs. Remember you don't pay twice for the same resource so additional legacy libraries will cost less than initially indicated.
