Hi Melissa,
Melissa Snyder said:Bill ~ Try uninstalling Logos Smart Tags for Libronix DLS 3 from Control Panel.
Done. No joy.

Also done. No joy.
L4 Smart Tag is installed.
All indications are that it's installed & should be working. But no.
In advanced options, FYI, Show Smart Tags is checked.
Any more suggestions?

Bill,
I should add that the Smart Tag does not "show" for me in Word 2010. I just have to right click on the text of the verse, then select "additional actions" and that gives me the replacement (see below). If you are waiting for the indicator (like in L3) you may not see it.

Hi Fred,
I'm using Office 2007 (I'll try to remember to add that to my signature).
Here are my options on right click over any of those scripture references:
As you can see, no actions. Nor is there any Smart Tag menu that pops up, no matter where I wave the cursor.
In case it was just slow, I opened L4 & closed all but NIV. Then I opened the Word test document with references (the same document in which I'd turned on L4 Smart Tags).
I rechecked the document. No joy.
I left it open in the background in case "after a few seconds" it'd find them. No joy.
L4 Smart Tags do not appear to be working, though they do appear to be installed (& L3 smart tags now uninstalled).
I'm at a loss what else to try before reinstalling L3 smart tags.

Bill

Hi Fred,
I am also running Office 2010, on Windows 7 Pro. However, I do not have the option for Logos Bible Software appearing under additional Actions. I ran the installer as Melissa suggested, and chose repair. Rebooted. Started Logos, Started Word. No joy...
Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Melissa,
Per posts above, I've already tried these suggestions & they didn't work.
But since the L4 Smart Tag APPEARS to be installed, I got to wondering if some Word option wasn't permitting it to run... so I tried these in Advanced Options, too. No joy, but here's what I tried:
- Enable all macros (normally, I only permit signed macros to run in Word).
- Trust Access to the VBA project object model (normally, I run with this unchecked).
As before, no joy... Anything else you can think of?

Nope on all questions. I do use templates, but they're templates for Word 2003 compatible, macro-enabled .doc files (too few folks I work with have 2007, never mind 2010). So as soon as Word starts, I change to one of those templates. The Smart Tag document you saw in the background (my test document) was based on that startup document.
If you'd like to spend some time via phone, check your profile for a number.

If any Office apps were open when Beta 9 was installed, it's possible that the Logos Smart Tags would appear installed, but not work properly. I wasn't sure whether running the .msi would work. You might try closing everything, including Outlook, then re-registering the DLL:
- Unregister the DLL: click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 /u C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Logos4\System\L4SmrtTg.dll in the Open dialog box, and then click OK. (Path will be C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Logos4\System.)
- Register the DLL: click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Logos4\System\L4SmrtTg.dll in the Open dialog box, and then click OK.

Done... no joy. I even tried resaving the document as a docx (native 2007) to see if it was 2003 compatibility getting in the way. Still no joy!
In both document formats, it'll even recheck the document for smart tags, but L4 smart tags are just not responding... More we can try?

Tries this as well still no luck.

If you can't get the Smart Tag to work:
Are you running Logos 4 or Word with elevated permissions? (I.e., with UAC turned on, right-clicking the program and choosing Run as administrator, or checking "Run this program as an administrator" in the Compatibility tab.)
Windows Vista (and later) prevent programs running at one "integrity level" from interacting with programs running at a different level, so the cross-process communication needed to recognise passages and replace the smart tag with a Bible verse will be disallowed by the OS if either program is run elevated.
(Logos 4 is designed to run as a regular user, not with administrative privileges, so we strongly recommend that you not run it elevated.)

If you're running both Logos 4 and Word not as administrator, and you're still not getting it to work, I've created a special debug build that will write a log file which may help us identify the issue 4807.L4SmrtTg.zip.
First, close all Office programs. I've noticed on my machine that Office 2010 sometimes keeps running in the background even after I've closed all the open windows, so you may want to reboot to get to a clean state. (Or use Task Manager to kill winword.exe, etc.) To install it, unzip the attached file to a temporary folder on your hard drive. The easy route is to copy it over the existing "Logos4\System\L4SmrtTg.dll". (Alternatively, you can run "regsvr32 C:\Where\You\Put\It\L4SmrtTg.dll" to install it in a different location.)
Run Word again, enter some text containing Bible references and press Enter to finish the paragraph. In Office 2010, right-click a reference in the text and expand the "Additional Actions" menu. In Office 2003/2007, simply finishing the paragraph should be sufficient to trigger recognition.
Open "My Documents\Logos Log Files\SmartTag.log" and see what it says. In normal circumstances, you should see the following:
Logging started at 2010-08-26T02:41:26.
SmartTagInitialize called by Word.Application.14
Smart tag name is: Bible references
Smart tag description is: Recognizes Bible references.
Smart tag count is: 1
Recognize called for text: John 3:16
Found Bible reference: Bible.Jn3.16
Smart tag shutting down.If you're getting something different, upload your SmartTag.log file and we'll take a look.0 -
Bradley,
Just to be clear. I am running both Logos4 and word with a User who is an administrator, but not running either of them as Administrator. Is this what you meant?
At any rate I copied your version over the existing L4SmrTg.dll and when I enter my text with bible references in my word document much to my surprise it now works.
However, I do not see any log file. Is this DLL a keeper?
Thanks

Bradley,
A little more info... it appears to work only if Logos4 is running. Is this the way it should work? I thought I remembered from smart tags in the past I did not have to have logos running for it to work so, I have been testing without Logos running.
I suspect this has been my issue all along.

The Logos 4 smart tag requires Logos 4 to be running in order to function; this is by design (and noted at http://www.logos.com/articleviewer/530).

Bradley meant you should not run either application via the right click "Run as administrator" whether you have a Windows Administrator account or a Standard user account. But even then Smart Tags may not work!

What version of Office? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
I assume also that you don't see the action listed in the AutoCorrect Options dialog (as shown at http://www.logos.com/articleviewer/530)?
Do you have Vista or later with UAC turned off?

Looks like you're running Vista (or later). Do you have UAC turned off? If UAC is on, do you run either Logos 4 or Word "as administrator" (i.e., elevated)?

If UAC is turned on, choosing "Run as administrator" for either Logos 4 or Word will stop the smart tag from working. This is due to security changes in Windows Vista (and later).
I have not tested with UAC turned off, but it's likely not to work either. (Apart from the issues with the smart tag, I'd also strongly discourage it, due to the increased risk of malware.)
