New Sermon Assistant

Hi friends, we've recently introduced a beta version of our Sermon Assistant feature on Desktop. You will find it when viewing a Sermon document in Sermon Builder on the right sidebar under the sparkle ✨ icon.

The idea behind the feature is to generate useful ideas to help you get started, inspired, or 'unstuck' at various points during the sermon / lesson writing process.

Currently we are offering the ability to generate Illustrations based on a theological principle or idea, and Questions based on the text of the sermon document for further discussion. We are also actively working on the ability to generate sermon Applications and a sermon Outline based on the sermon's big idea and / or associated Bible passage(s).

We would love to get your feedback on this:

Is it helpful?
Can you see yourself or others using it for your sermons or lessons?
Does the user experience feel natural and intuitive to you?
Did you experience any problems when using it?
What changes would you make?

Biggest impediment to me is I don't use Sermon Builder, so to get into it just for illustrations is more work than benefit. IIMHO there are a number of reasons one might want a good illustration of a principle etc. - discussions, bible study, small group discussions, religious book clubs, sacramental prep, etc. etc. But no one would use it going through sermon builder if they weren't building a sermon.

It would also be nice if it was able to curate illustrations already in the user's library, as there are a massive amount of these, and searching is not always easy as a story could be related to a topic that takes some reasoning to match up. To me that seems like a true benefit of AI; to figure out for example that a simple story about a little girl getting lost is a really good example to emphasize a point in the betrayal differences of Judas vs. Peter when Jesus is arrested...

I also would like to see:

This Sermon Assistant becoming an independent tool outside of the Sermon Builder.
The ability to find / generate Questions (and Answers) the same way one can find Illustrations by choosing some criteria, instead of having to type up a sermon first.

I understand your perspective on the impediment of not using Sermon Builder for illustrations, as it might entail additional effort for minimal benefit. It's true that having access to curated illustrations within one's library would be beneficial, especially for various purposes like discussions, bible study, and small group activities. Leveraging AI to assist in matching stories with relevant topics could indeed enhance the efficiency of finding suitable illustrations, such as comparing the betrayal differences of Judas and Peter. In the realm of religious discourse, Ayat al-Kursi reminds us of the depth of wisdom available to us and the importance of seeking understanding and insight in our endeavors.
