Judean culture

Judean culture during the second temple period (c. 500 BCE-70 CE) was diverse. And it is vital to note that what we commonly refer to as "early Christianity" or the Jesus movement was actually one of numerous Judean groupings or sects in first-century Palestine and the Mediterranean diaspora. I am trying to determine this in a way to situate within Johannine Studies. How is that possible? Among factions within Judaism or Judean culture, we happen to know most about the sects that the Jewish historian Josephus describes as three (or four) Judean "philosophies" (particularly in War 2.119-166 and Antiquities 18.11-25, published in the 70s and 90s CE). Any resources on this topic in Logos? I read general histories on the topic.

I think you'd have to clarify what you're looking for.
For example, would you say the other Jesus messianic movement was a jewish sect? Thousands died. (Josephus)
Do you think 'the Way' was a sect? (Acts 24:14; compare 2 Peter 2:1)
In other words, why do you need a 'sect' to fit into John? Sounds like modern scholarship (although the english 'sect' does appear in the text).

No I do not think the other Jesus messianic movement was a jewish sect. I think 'the Way' was a sect. I want to do a study on John within Judaism. Today, scholars are increasingly suggesting that the ‘sectarian’ debates and diversity that seem to have characterized Judaism in the land of Israel continued for years, even centuries, after the destruction of the temple as well. I am trying to find out how this came to be.
