A better way to implement AI in Logos

I am one of those who is elated that Logos has decided to implement AI into its software. The advantages of AI alongside a solid Logos library to me are obvious. I immediately jumped on the early access subscription and fully intend to stick with it as Logos offers improvements and adds more functionality. The current AI features are understandably not very robust, but I'll bet they are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many ways I'd like to see AI implemented going forward, but probably the most obvious way would be as a tool, like the Factbook. Logos could name her Sophia. You open the tool which opens a chat window. One way this tool could function is by linking it to other open resources, which would be very much like creating GPTs in OpenAI and uploading files as their "Knowledge." The user could then ask Sophia questions about the book, or books, linked, ask "her" to summarize or create an outline of them, etc.

For all those skeptical of AI in Logos, or those disappointed with what has just been made available in the early access of Logos Pro, I'd suggest just being open minded and patient. I really do think this is Logos just scratching the surface with AI, and the possibilities for better incorporating it into the software are endless.

I would like to be able for Logos to use the resources I choose for the particular AI question, to answer the following questions. Something like:

My instructions for this particular AI Query:

Using the NASB1995 version, MacArthur's Study Notes, the New American Standard Greek and Aramaic Dictionary, (and list any other resources I want the AI to check for this particular query)

For Ephesians 1:3, do the following:
    1. Answer the who, what, when, where and why questions for this verse.
    2. List the observation of repeated words, phrases, or themes,
    3. List the figures of speech from the original language use to convey ideas or images.
    4. List any comparisons or contrasts in the authors ideas.
    5. List the verb tenses and voices.
    6. List the nouns and prepositions.
    7. List the literary type and connectives.
    8. Describe the context of this verse, how it fits in the book and the rest of the Bible.

Being able to specify the resources I've purchased and have AI answer my questions based on my selections would be a great feature.

    I like this idea.

I doubt they would ever fully NOT show us things that they think we should buy.

But, maybe they could give priority to the resources we specify, then at the end try to sell us on things.

In a smart book study you can specify a collection, tagged items in your library or a single resource. Logos Pro cannot yet answer the questions posed above, but you can limit the resources used in a smart search.

I have set at the feet of some great preachers that did all the things listed and yet they didn't have AI. I have learned from them that it can be done and needs to be done. I wonder if AI will now take all that "learning" away... and as such we will be getting "AI Sermons"????

I think there is a place for AI in bible studey.  But there is no excuse for NOT learning God's word.  We must never let AI become our "sermon developer"... Psa 199:11
"Your word I have hidden in my heartThat I might not sin against You."

I pray we never let anything or anyone take away our love of putting God's word in our hearts.

xn = Christan man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".

I have one leg on each side of that fence (and barbed wire in the middle), because on one side I hugely value knowledge and wisdom that comes with learning. On the other side...well it's like calculators.

People said we would forget multiplication tables and get dumb if we used them.  But we didn't. I still know my times tables well and use a calculator to quickly amass data and produce a result. But I know how to do what the calculator does, and I know when and why I can trust the answer.  Like a student might do on a physics exam (remembering those days).  It's ok to use the calculator.

The problem will be if someone pawns themselves off as an authority because AI gave them an answer and the victim has no idea if their answer is valid or not. They just trusted it.  But then my mom didn't trust her calculator for years, until she was convinced it didn't make a mistake--but then she knew how to check it against facts by doing the math long hand on paper.

AI gives us answers based on a vast wealth of knowledge.  More than we could Amass with many doctorate degrees.  We just have to figure out when we can trust it and when we can't.  Right now, my trust level is close to zero when it comes to AI and things biblical.  I use Logos to double check what AI feeds me.

Then we have this thing where we want our teachers to be not digitally taught but Holy Spirit led.

Sitting on barbed wire doesn't feel good.

Unfortunately, I can attest to the fact that in recent years and with the extensive use of calculators and other such tools, quite many students have never learned to do even some basic calculations without their beloved ("AI") calculator ... could such be in the category of "get dumb" ?

You have a completely different basis ... you know how to do without a calculator.

Btw, I consider "artificial INTELLIGENCE" to be a  misnomer as there really is no such thing. "AI" is actually what a human intelligence developed ...

My problem with AI is that everyone will expect the AI answers to be consistent with their theology.  A Calvinist will expect a Calvinist answer.  An Arminian will expect an Arminian answer.  A Dispensationalist will expect a dispensational answer.

Who wrote the anonymous books of the Bible?  There are traditional answers, but no certain answers.  For example, who wrote Hebrews?  Which James wrote the letter of James?

Theology is somewhat like art.  I do not believe AI will ever paint a masterpiece like Leonardo da Vinci or write music as wonderful as Mozart.  Nor do I believe that AI generated sermons will be anointed by the Holy Spirit.

Good points. This is why I'd want to use the resources I select (and trust).  If I purchase a major package that has a number of resources I don't trust, I wouldn't what that as part of what gets queried.

To me, adding a flag of 'Trusted Resource' on the resources I choose, would enable AI to just use my 'Trusted Resources'.

I'm not a preacher, so no sermon prep.  Working through Grasping God's Word, using AI that only uses my 'Trusted Resources' would save me a bunch of time.  If I have a tool that can reliably help save time (identifying grammar, cultural contexts, etc.) I think it could be good stewardship to utilize tools that help (like a calculator, or the computer we are all typing on.)

Being able to select the resources I want AI to use, to me, would be one of the most important parts.

If I'm going to open all the books and do the same thing manually in Logos anyway, it would be a great time saver to keep some algorithms stored I would use to do study and just use them over and over on different verses.

I would be weary of AI doing the interpreting, I'd want it to give me the info I ask for, then use the Scripture to interpret Scripture to ensure the context stays. Biblical.

I just wanted to check you are aware this is possible today using a Books Search in Smart mode.

For demonstration purposes, I've added the tag TrustedResources to all the books in my Library by Don Carson and then just run the search against that tag

I was unaware of this!  Thank you!  This is great to use now, it would also be powerful to use this in combination with ai.

I'm grateful for the replies. I hope you all have a blessed day.
