Location of new favorite folder

Hi,

I use favorites extensively to group my studies together. It bothers me that when I:

1) Right click a selected folder

2) Choose "Create new folder"

3) The new folder is not created as a subfolder of the selected folder, rather Logos puts it at the bottom of the folder list - you then have to drag and drop it to the right location.

Is there a setting to change the default location for a new folder, is this "by design" - or what?

This is currently by design, but several of us users have challenged the design and asked them to change it, and I believe it's on their list of things to consider. I don't know anybody who likes the way it works currently. Logos has just had higher priority issues to work on these days until they finish implementing all the "missing features" from L3. But I think sometime next year we'll see them catching up on these sorts of UI improvement requests that we've been making.

I have also noticed that renaming, for example a note file, after it has been linked in favorites, the name change is not reflected in the favorites link.

Any comments on that?

You can rename your favorites links to whatever you want. They merely inherit the name of the original when you first make the link, but thereafter their title is independent from the source. This is how Favorites work in your web browser too. While the start out inheriting the name of the web page they point to, you can rename them whatever you want, and if the web page that they are a link to changes its name, it doesn't get updated. Your own name for it (which is likely still the default unless you've renamed it) will remain what it was when you first marked it as a favorite. Presumably you'll remember it by what it used to be called anyway, in that case. If you're linking in Logos Favorites to something you've created yourself, as opposed to some Logos content, then the situation is a bit more nuanced. But for Logos to figure out whether you want the name change to propagate or not, or to bother you with an alert asking you whether you wanted it to might be problematic. They've chosen this method as the simplest, least intrusive. Renaming something after marking it as a favorite is probably a rare enough happening anyway, that you could be expected to have to rename the Favorite pointer as well. But maybe they could implement an internal flag saying whether or not the user has renamed this Favorite, and always keep its title in sync with what it's pointing to if the latter changes, unless the user has renamed it, in which case leave it as what the user renamed it to. You could suggest that to them if you like; via email to suggest (at) logos (dot) com.
