I recently am watching a great multi-contextual documentary on Moses called, Testament: The Story of Moses. What is everyone's favorite academic biography of Moses?
Gregory of Nyssa. Gregory of Nyssa: The Life of Moses. Edited by Richard J. Payne. Translated by Abraham J. Malherbe and Everett Ferguson. The Classics of Western Spirituality. New York; Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 1978.
Philo's On the Life of Moses is also worth a read.
Okay, these are not contemporary academic so I cheated a bit. If you want contemporary, given my interests read Moses in Biblical and Extra-Biblical Traditions (Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft, 372): Graupner, Axel, Wolter, Michael: 9783110194609: Amazon.com: Books
Both of classics I own the other I do not. I have read Gregory's work today. Now on to Philo. Are you familar with this biography of Moses? Kirsch, Jonathan. Moses: A Life. New York: Ballantine, 1998.
