Mac Silicon, prioritizing processor or RAM?

Hi All,

I am in the market for a new laptop and finally making the jump from Intel to the M-series processors. Historically I have bought MacBook Pros because I was doing a chunk of audio and video processing work but at this point the only power intensive application I use is Logos. For that reason I am considering one of the new 15" M3 MacBook Airs. With my current budget I can max out the ram (24gb).

Am I going to regret that choice? Do I need to go back a generation and get a refurbished M2 14" MBP? At that point I would be getting less ram (16gb) and less screen real estate (14") in exchange for an actively cooled processor with 8 more cores. Is the processor going to make a big difference in this context? Thoughts?

Welcome

You should have no problem with a MacBook Air. You don't need a lot of RAM or more processor power unless you open a whole bunch of windows all the time.

If you go with the MBP 2 (16 Ram) 14" screen you will have no problems. Logos indexed 19,000 books in about 25 minutes.

When I link Passage guide and a Bible there is a seamless connection, and Passage Guide has no problem keeping up. You really do not any lag.

I have an M2 chill in an Air and am very happy with it. The difference between my other computer (the last MBP with an Intel chip) is enormous.These Apple chips are amazing.

I don't think you will need to 'max out the ram' to get a great performance out of Logos. 8gb usually seems adequate and 16gb overkill.

And yes the chip performance on all the M chips is remarkable.
