I see a lot of different versions of John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion. What is the difference between these versions?

Shalom Christian,
During his lifetime John Calvin published several editions of his Institutes of the Christian Religion. The first edition was published in 1536 and the final edition was published in 1559. The first edition is much smaller than the final edition and the structure of the book is also different.

The first four links are different english translations of the 1559 edition of the Institutes. The first one is the standard translation which you would want to use if you are citing the Institutes in an academic paper.
The last link is a bundle of two english translations: one of the first edition (1536) and one of the 1541 French edition.
Some volumes are included in Legacy Libraries. For example this starter library

There are more.

The Ford Lewis Battles translation edited by John T. McNeill is considered to be the definitive English edition. The scholarly apparatus in it (notes and indices) is excellent too. Henry Beveridge's translation is older, from mid 19th century.
There are also several resource requests that I'd encourage anyone interested in Calvin's Institutes to vote for. The first two were newly added by me today.

Christian.... You are not reading my answers to you. I am once again asking you to stop badgering the forums with your ideological research questions. These forums are about Logos software.... how it works, how to get it to work. They are not your personal research helper for your school papers. I think the way you use the forums is unethical...and I am asking you to stop this. Please.
Thank you.
Edit: Below is a copy of the forum rules for you to look at: Please not particularly item# 1and 2. I think you are violating those rules.
Please abide by the following guidelines as you interact on our forums.
Thank you for your cooperation. Enjoy discussing and learning about Logos Bible Software.
Now, xnman, asking about 'which' resource, (1) is a forum basic for years, and (2) is useful for later Logosians ... a good reason why a better forum search would be good.
Which MT has morphology?
Which BHS is academically cited? Same?
Which targum translation?
And on and on.

Which SESB?
Understood and point taken. But what I have accused Christian of doing is:
1. Using the forums for his personal research database. I( believe this to be un-honorable.
2. Using the forums to "teach" his ideological and theological theories by the way he asks his questions. I believe this to be unethical.
I've asked him to stop... and not have to report him.
When I first came to the forum.... I did some of this. Others helped me to learn what the forum was supposed to be used for. And I thank them for it. I hope Christian will learn also and use the forum for the purposes that it was designed for.
Thanks my 2 cents.... [8-|]
Thanks my 2 cents....
Well, what you're saying is indeed true ... but not this thread. I don't know much (anything) about Calvin, and now I do (for resource selection).
What Christian is doing (and not following Faithlife guidance ... it's their forum) is probably well within academic 'narrowing down' ... else you get the kitchen sink. But that narrowing down causes angst among others (like us), ergo, a no-no. It's interesting.
I almost never ask for a type of book on Logos (lots of angst!). But I do try to periodically highlight books that 'minority' Logosians might miss (most academic).
I am once again asking you to stop badgering the forums with your ideological research questions.
I am once again asking you to stop badgering the forums with your ideological research questions. Xnman, I appreciate that you are frustrated with Christian. However, this question is well within the guidelines of asking for a differentiation between similar Logos products. We need to encourage Christian's appropriate questions while discouraging his inappropriate questions.
I politely disagree. These forums were not created for anyone to use as their personal "research database". It is wrong for Christian to do this. I printed the guidelines.... He, like everyone else should abide by them.
Thanks.
Edit: I think I have been polite about this, in asking Christian to stop this, but it seems apparent by his keeping on that Christian just does not want to work within the forum guidelines.
He, like everyone else should abide by them.
Agreed
I printed the guidelines....
Your concerns are appropriate for some of his posts but I just don't see it in this particular post.
Christian just does not want to work within the forum guidelines.
I disagree. He has cut back on the number of posts during a week but not within a day in which he posts. He is interacting more with posts from others. He is trying, sometimes unsuccessfully, to tie his questions to Logos software. Yes, these are small steps but sufficient progress for me to remain patient. I also note that more people are providing responses on his appropriate questions, the kind of positive reinforcement that I am pleased to see.
