QUESTION regarding command box drop down menu

Why when I enter a topic in the command box (something I don't normally do) do I get 3 options for a topical layout (that I never use) but I don't get a topic guide - only a Bible word study guide? one of my examples in testing was "baptism" which I sort of expected to give both a topic guide and a theological guide as options. "Eucharist" was even stranger as it offered no guides.

And why when I enter a passage does no guide show up - only layouts?

Just typing a passage or a topic on it's own doesn't provide a means to open just the guide, but you can be more explicit with the command to do this:

open passage guide to john 3:16 or even just passage guide to john 3:16
open topic guide to baptism or just topic guide to baptism

"Eucharist" was even stranger as it offered no guides.

"Eucharist" isn't a "Bible word" because it doesn't show up in the Bible. You also can't enter it directly in a Bible Word Study.

I'm trying to figure out why Logos favors the layouts so much over the guides - and why I get BWS rather than Topic guide ... My usage should not have strongly influenced this one way or the other as I rarely open either through the command line.

Sorry, I can't speak to that. When support was added for handling "bare topics" (without any accompanying command text), the decision was to add the layouts and not the guides.

I think it is a deficiency that we only show the BWS but don't show other guide types. I've created a case to correct this.

My usage should not have strongly influenced this one way or the other as I rarely open either through the command line.

Usage only affects ordering, not what options are listed.
