Best e-ink reader?

Any recommendations for the best options for using Logos on an e-ink tablet?

I had a Boox Nova Air 2 which was quite clunky with Logos, the menu buttons were off etc. looking for something I can do lots of reading in Logos. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm surprised that the Nova Air 2 didn't work well for you. The newer version of the Air 2 has decent hardware. It's important to remember that most e-ink devices will not be as smooth as, say, an iPad. However, I have a couple of suggestions to offer you.

The Boox Leaf 2, and its new successor, the Page, have a 7 inch display and page turn buttons. With the newest firmware, if you configure the page turn buttons to scroll and then configure Logos for scrolling, the text will scroll a page every time you press the button. If page turn buttons appeal to you, that may be worth looking into.

If you want the best possible performance from an e-ink device - and can afford the higher price - I'd recommend the Boox Tab Mini C. It has a 7.8 inch display, like your Nova Air 2, but has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, as well as a better CPU. It has some color capability, but I didn't buy it for the color. It runs Logos more smoothly than any e-ink device I have ever tried - and I've tried a number of them!

Both the Leaf/Page and the Tab Mini C run Android 11, as of now.

You can opt for a larger e-ink device, but the price gets larger as well.

My main problem with the Nova Air was that Id press the menu buttons and they wouldn’t work, you would have to press somewhere higher.

The Tab mini C looks like a good option, the colour would be very helpful as I use a lot of colours for different types of notes.

the Boox Note Air 3 C, Tab Ultra C Pro are also within my budget (just), any thoughts on any of these if they might be a better option? The better the experience with Logos, the more I’ll use it and that’s why I’m willing to invest in the best option

This seems like a software issue with the Nova Air. Something to bring to their attention, and then wait for a fix in the next software update.

The Tab Ultra C Pro should perform a little better overall than the Note Air 3 C. The Ultra C Pro offers more internal storage (important if you want all your Logos resources on your e-ink device). The Tab Mini C should perform similarly to the Ultra C Pro. The main difference is in the size pf the display. It depends on whether you prefer a 7.8 inch display or a 10.3 inch display. If you also intend to read pdfs, the larger display may be helpful. That being said, because NeoReader handles pdfs very well, I have found that the 7.8 inch display works for me for the pdfs I actually view.

As for your Nova Air problems, I had a Nova 2 that ran Logos well. It seems that the glitch you encountered is a problem specific to the Air 2! Onyx has better customer service than they once did, so they may offer a fix to the Air 2. Or not!

Thanks again Mark, I thought about it for a while and ordered a Tab Mini C, I definitely want to have the smaller device but I'm seriously considering getting an Ultra C Pro as well. I'll see how I go with the Mini for a while.

I'm pretty sure now what I had was the first Nova Air. I've watched demo of the fist Nova Air and a Tab Mini C side by side and the performance difference was significant, I'm looking forward to trying it!

I've been happy with the Tab Mini C. The performance is about as good as it gets on an Eink device, at least in my experience. Color is an added bonus. I hope it will work out well for you!

I've had the Tab Mini C for half an hour now, mainly downloading Logos resources, and I have mixed feelings. Its so much smoother than my Nova Air was, it performs really well, the colour is a good addition, but I bought a e-ink device to use exclusively with the front light off.

I was surprised to see, when I turned the light off, how dark the screen is compared to my Nova Air or Kindle Paperwhite. If I'm inside it's almost necessary to have the light on, with it side by side with my Kindle, I have to have the front light on at 50% and then they look similar, but then I have the problem of blue light that I'm sensitive to in the evenings.

I'll keep having a play around with it, great size though!

I didn't realize that you wanted to read on your device with the front light off. That changes things! Because of the color feature, contrast with the light off is not that great. I would never use the Tab Mini C with the frontlight off! In fact, Onyx devices as a rule, in my experience, don't have great contrast with the light off compared to, say Kobo or even Kindle.

That said, you can adjust the color temperature of the light to reduce the blue light. I still find the Tab Mini C to be easier on my eyes than my iPad Mini, and the iPad Mini is pretty good for reading as it is.

There are Eink devices that offer very good contrast with the light off, but they don't have Android as their OS.
