Does anyone have a resource or method to use Logos Bible Software to make a verse by verse parallel list for the Gospel and letters of John?
???
There is not the kind of parallelism between the Gospel of John and the letters of John of the nature that there is among the synoptic gospels. There are some common themes and definite cross-references. So perhaps what you want to do is look at a cross-reference resource such as The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge and pull out all verses in John which the Letters of John have as cross-references. Word counted 331 mentions of the abbreviation "Jn" in that chunk of NTSK which I copied and pasted from Logos into a Word document.
Thanks Rosie. That was what I was thinking about the similarity. Synoptic Gospel parallelism is a huge yet complex topic in New Testament Studies. I am working on a little rabbit trail I guess you can call it. I am doing a project on the divine name of God and Jesus and Logos in John's Gospel and his Letters. This study came from an article I have read recently Frey, Jörg, 'Dualism and the World in the Gospel and Letters of John', in Judith M. Lieu, and Martinus C. de Boer (eds), The Oxford Handbook of Johannine Studies. The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge is something I own in Print but not in the Logos platform. I never thought to look there. Thanks for pointing me to that area of resources. Any other source advice is greatly appreciated on the topic.
