SUGGESTION: Passage Guide idea

Would it be possible to be able to expand each of the links to be able to see the text of the resource right in the Passage Guide itself? For each link you would have a + sign next to it. You can either over over the link to see a quick preview or click on the link and open the resource in another window or pane or you could click on the + sign and have the link expand to a scrollable area where you can view the text in its entirety within the passage guide. This would serve to simplify the layouts. You would need fewer windows open and be able to do much more within the passage guide rather than open extra windows. It would also be great if the Explore tool could be incorporated within the passage guide so that there are less reporting tools to decide between. Probably a lot of other tools could be a part of the passage guide as well so that there is just one reporting tool that does most of the information gathering we need.

All of the tools in bible explorer are already in passage guide. It's basically a mini passage guide, what it is in bible explorer that you are not able to find in passage guide. Cited by is also already incorporated into passage guide. You can add multiple collections to a custom passage guide. What other specific tools would you like to see ? Are you thinking the Passage Analysis tools. I think it would be good to at least have a link to this tool from withing Passage Guide that gave you the option to open it as a tab in current window or a floating window. But having those tools being able to be incorporated into a custom passage guide would be helpful.

In the passage guide yo cannot hover over the commentary and see a preview of the text but instead you see just information about the commentary (not very helpful). In Explorer you can hover and see the text. So I suppose everything is there as you say but the commentary section should be fixed so that you can see the text when hovering.

Cited by is also already incorporated into passage guide.

The cited by tool has many options that the collections tool in passage guide does not. For insatance, you can set the cited by to show a snippet of the text in the resource whereas the passage guide just shows the titles. I would suggest putting Cited By in a section by itself in the passage guide along with all its options. You could click on the Cited By section and it would expand to show what you see in the Cited By section as it currently is and you could change its settings by clicking on settings.

Some of the other tools could be incorporated in the Passage Guide such as Information, power lookup, etc. You would have the option of having any one of these in its own window (perhaps by putting a button in the section to open it in a separate window or just create a custom guide with only that section) or having everything in one place for quick easy access to any information you want.

Of all these suggestions I would really love to see the ability to have each link expandable (and collapsable) to a scrollable text area so you can read the particular information right within the passage guide. If you were using the "word by word" section of the PG you would be able to click on the + sign next to a particular lexicon to expand it so you can read the entire entry on the word under scrutiny. You could then collapse it and do the same for the next resource all within the PG.

Thanks Tim for explaining the differences you find, I was thinking of raw functions and whether they were included or not. I have never really thought of the need to read commentaries etc within the passage guide itself. I tend to use cited by for resources that are not handled by passage guide but I know have snippets of information by verse that I find useful, and the occasional study bible notes, but not all of them are handled well by cited by, so its trial and error to see which one work and which ones don't. I am not sure that I would want things like information window or power lookup in guide, but have not objection to them as options. Just not really sure how you would use them in passage guide since it is driven by a bible reference and information window and power lookup can be driven by much more and are driven by what you are reading. If you are reading a commentary within passage guide and for instance want a quick definition on a word, looking it up in information window would take you away from what your are reading. Power lookup i often use to display content of footnotes of what I am reading so having them in passage guide along with window Maybe I'm missing something. Can you explain a bit more how you see these things working. Its always interesting to here how people use things differently. Its an opportunity to gain new insight and perspective on things.

I didn't think through the use of power lookup and information in PG and you have good points. As I said I think my biggest desire is the expandable links. There would probably be times when reading the text in a separate window would be prefered (such as extended reading-several pages as opposed to a few paragraphs )but it would be nice to have the option to read quick bits of information from within the PG. It would be nice to have as many of the reporting tools in one place as possible.
