Is AI "reading" my notes - there are delays in entry

I hope I am not asking a question already asked (I looked at a few "related posts" and they were older)

While I am typing personal notes, letters disappear, then I may either a) try to correct by retyping or b) wait and the letters reappear, but the cursor might be a couple words from the end (weird).

I was thinking AI was churning, going over my notes as I type. I probably have more notes than 90% of Logos users, but not sure why that would be an issue, it never was in the past. Is there a way to have AI pause until startup or shutdown of the application (this is desktop Mac running 34.0).

Thinking it might be someone hacking the computer generally, I wiped out the entire hard drive and reinstalled all applications and the issue is still there.

AI is not applied to your notes unless you are a hacker who added AI to all you keyboard input. However, there have been several reports of the type of problem you are reporting that occurs on very long notes. Does this seem to be a common denominator for you? If so, you could break the notes that cause the problem into smaller notes or wait for Logos to completely resolve the problem. If your problem is not related to note length, wait for someone on a Mac or from Logos to weigh in.

So far as we know, for now, Logos is not using AI to pry into your notes.

But companies are starting to do that with data the users store in those companies' platforms, so unless we get it in a EULA from Logos that they promise never to do this with AI, I wouldn't put it past them.

Mind you, Meta and Logos are quite different companies. We don't pay for the use of Meta's products, so of course they are going to monetize our data. We are the product, after all. And we do pay for Logos resources (but not the software where we enter all our data). And Logos is at its core still a company run by Christians, so hopefully they would find it ethically problematic to use AI in such a way. But are these discussions going on behind closed doors there to make sure they've thought about it and decided well?

We're in the midst of a huge sea change with the rapid rise of AI capabilities, and it's moving ahead faster than anyone, particularly Christians, have had time to think through the societal/philosophical/theological/ethical implications.

But... what would be the point? It costs us 5c per 1,000 tokens to process data with a LLM so we'd be burning money to ... do what? What would be the outcome or plausible revenue stream from "prying into users' notes with AI", whatever that means?

Or are you imagining that we'd train a custom LLM on users' notes? (A) that's even more costly, (B) you're vastly overestimating how much user data we have (training a world-class model requires input on the order of the size of the entire Internet), and (C) Mark Barnes already posted that "we never use this data to train AI, nor do we allow any of our technology partners to do so" (https://community.logos.com/forums/p/221543/1290563.aspx#1290563).

(I can imagine a "summarize all my own notes on this verse" feature that could be built using AI in the future, but that would be (1) clearly advertised, (2) opt in, (3) very visible in the UI, (4) not running in the background slowing down every keystroke, and (5) still not used to train AI.)

Just checking on the size of my notes and notebooks, when I create a new note with no characters in it, there is a lag sometimes with cut and paste, or else the aforementioned lag with cursor reappearing a few letters from the end phenomenon.

Could it be an issue with total user notes, by biggest bins are Lectionary A, B, and C each with about 5500 notes, translation notes 7550, whole book notes 4350, general notes 3190. The longest single notes are ones I take while doing Mobile Ed classes, maybe the longer ones the equivalent to ten to twenty typewritten pages each.

So it seems to me the size of the overall notes file could have something to do with it, since it happens in new notes.

Another comment about possible ways for Logos to "deal" with notes. Can't the programmers just write code that says to the AI "stay out of user notes, but go ahead and have at it with everything else" including user sermons

or notes that are one week (or month or day) old, go ahead and work your magic.

That would be horrible. I can't image trying to research something and have to deal with AI generated results that make a mishmash out of ideas that run the full spectrum form liberal to conservative, include examples of poor exegesis, cover a range of personal biases, etc. Might as well just Google and hope for the best.

Have no problem with Logos using/reading my notes, I want it to do that, just have it do it not in real time but at startup or shutdown of the Logos application. Here is a screenshot of it picking up my user notes

This is a bit backwards - nothing goes into AI unless explicitly sent to it; programmers code to send Logos information to AI rather than to block AI from helping itself.

That's coming from a search index of your Notes that was built on your computer and is completely offline. It uses technology from Logos 4, no AI involvement at all.

(Logos is "reading your notes" for that index the same way it "reads your notes" in order to show them to you when you open the Notes Tool.)

When putting new words in italics, it doesn't want to obey the "now that we are done turn off italics"

FWIW, this double quote behavior, the cursor moving two or three spaces before the last word typed, and words disappearing and reappearing isn't happening when I run Logos on Windows.

My guess is Apple's built in AI and Logos are not jiving or counteracting one another, but a layman's guess.

My thoughts as of today is that just as live reinterpretation of dictation on videos, the cc part...

(some YouTube live broadcasts or when typing on your phone, that is the intelligent guessing of what you're going to type, not the official CC that network broadcasts use where someone in the studio is typing the text like a court reporter)

...that's what is causing the deletion of letters and words you just typed - sometimes they reappear after about 3-4 seconds, sometimes not. There definitely is some phrase and sentence level AI going on in real time just like spell check works to flag 'Pharoah' as a misspelling.
