I posted this in the Memorial Day Sale thread but it was suggested that I create a new post where it would get more exposure. Here it is:
I am looking at The Asia Bible Commentary and the South Asia Bible Commentary
Also The Africa Bible Commentary and the Africa Study Bible Notes
How do these resources differ? In your opinion are they worth adding to my library?
Thanks!
the South Asia Bible Commentary Also The Africa Bible Commentary
the South Asia Bible Commentary
Also The Africa Bible Commentary
These are both one-volume commentaries so they sometimes lack the depth to show the actual differences in interpretation that different cultural views create. However, I had the South Asian volume in print before Logos carried it. How much use you'll get from them depends upon your interest in removing Western cultural accretions to the Bible to get a purer sense of what the scripture actually says.
I have the Africa one; also the African American one. The African distinguisher is broad authorship. Some authors, you won't notice any uniqueness. Others, pretty up front. For example in 2 Peter 1, the author discusses the significance of naming in African culture. Catches your attention.
