Need Help With Labeling And Attributes
Hi all,
I want to do a Bible study on music in the Bible. Ultimately, what I want to do is see all the verses describing music being played. I want to differentiate between singing and instrumentation. In my head, the search would be "give me all the verses where people are playing instruments". So, I think that means some mixture of highlighting, labels, and attributes, but I'm not sure how to implement it to get what I want. I know how to create styles, how to add labels, and how to set attributes, but I'm not sure how to do it to get what I want. Or should I use another technique to get what I'm after?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Dave

Have you considered starting with the bible browser and entering music or singing and see the results in the different datasets? It may provide you a good overview of things that you can then work into a detailed search. You can create passage lists and work from there. I with the send to search actually populated the search but it does not.

Another option, for the New Testament, would be to use Louw-Nida numbers having anything to do with music/musicians/musical instruments and search for those.
You could also use a thematic bible index, such as The New Thematic Concordance, which has a whole section on music. It might not be exhaustive, though.

If you input sing into a Bible Search you will get many suggestions e.g. culture:Music, culture:Singing. You will get different suggestions if you input music and instrument. There may be overlaps and omissions e.g. sense:"musical instrument" does not pick all harps (thing:harp).

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the Bible Browser. THat looks like a cool feature, though.John Fidel said:Have you considered starting with the bible browser and entering music or singing and see the results in the different datasets? There are numerous things used to create music - cymbals, drums, harps, horns, voices, etc.I can't think of all of them right now - let alone when I want to search for them. The reason I went to the highlighter/label idea first is I thought I could label things for later reference as I'm doing my read-through Scripture.

I would automatically go the label route ... and create label attributes for all the information I might want to capture. There is no requirement that all attributes be supplied for a label.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I was suggesting Search inputs to enable identification of passages for your labeling or tagging.
