Members - Discussions Allowed: Book critiques - Faithlife
After 10 years I am reviving this group to see if people are interested in a civil discussion of Logos resources. The basic rules initially are:
- Be polite
- If asked a clarifying question about one of your posts, you must answer it.
The second rule is to manage people who like to throw out criticisms then deflect responsibility by changing the topic.
The first choice for a book is rather odd: The Arrogant Journey | Logos Bible Software reading only Part 1 Hermeneutics. I chose it because much of the discussion should be fairly neutral - whether or not the author has his facts straight. The doctrinal discussion will likely concentrate on the completeness of the method/presentation. And it is a good example of how I use other resources to clarify my understanding when the text is unclear.
The next book up will be Reasoning from the Scriptures with Catholics | Logos Bible Software in which many of my annotations are corrections to misrepresentations of Catholic beliefs.
You have to request to join the group which you can do from the link at the top of this post. Initially, everyone will be approved. The reason for making it membership only is to be able to exclude people who consistently are impolite or deflect responsibility for their posts.
If you are interested, there is a notefile available to members of the group with additional information to fill in assumed knowledge and my critique. One cannot build a bibliography from the notes so the links will be a surprise. Be sure to turn the visual filter for the notebook on in the book itself.
Note for Christian: this is a decent example of what I expect when I read a book from the perspective of a scholar/serious non-scholar.
