Text Selection in iPadOS
On iPadOS and iOS, there is a strange thing happening with text selection, that I feel pretty confident is a Logos issue and not an OS issue. Here is what is happening. If I want to select a block of text, I long press until the text is selected and the selection bars appear. I usually select text from left to right. So, let’s say that I’ve selected the very first word of the block that I want to highlight. My next step is to grab the right grab bar (which has the grab circle below the line). Then, i would take that bar and drag right or downward to select the block of text. That works find if the originally selected word is lengthy. If the word selected is a single letter (“I”) or a few letters (“there”) then when you can’t grab the right grab bar. It only grabs the left side. I believe this is a Logos issue because, in other iOS apps I am not experiencing this same behavior.
Obviously, there are workarounds. Select the rightmost word, select a middl word, etc. It’s just a little frustrating to have to retry several times before you can get your text block selected properly.

Tom and Michael,
I am sorry to hear that you have been having this difficulty.
We have not been able to duplicate this problem in-house.
Is it possible that you are using iOS 18? iOS 18 is still in Beta and not supported by us.

I am not using the beta.

Joe - I made a video, but it won’t upload. Let me try two pictures to demonstrate.
If I select a short word as in this first diagram, and try to grab b, the result is what you see in the second image. The left bar moves to the right, deselecting what is already selected, rather than moving to the right bar towards the right and selecting more text.
Are you saying, this does not happen when you are testing it out?
Am I just grabbing in the wrong place? This problem does not happen if my original selection is a longer word.

I was able to reproduce this on my iPhone. After much word selecting I found it was happening when I put my thumb on the B circle but with line A so close, my thumb was brushing the bottom of the A line too. I was therefore inadvertently selecting A as a result. When I specifically pressed only the right edge of the B circle, the issue did not occur. I did confirm that with a longer word, if I grab the bottom of line A, it will select line A for further selection. I was also able to select the bottom of a select line rather than the circle in iMessage so doesn't seem like it is Logos-specific. I am running iOS 17.5.1 on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Tom, does this sound like what may be happening?

Close but not quite. I am definitely not making contact any contact with the A line. Even if I use something as precise as my Apple Pencil, where I can see that I’m not in contact with the A line, it still exhibits this behavior. I also do not have this problem anywhere else on the ios interface. Like you, I’m on iOS 17.5.1.
I’m curious if this has anything to do with the pop-up context menu making it difficult to register touching that B line.
